Default In the mood for Steamers

Well, I've got a hankerin' for steamers. I suddenly find that I've got a couple of hours to myself tomorrow and figgered I'd treat myself to those steamers.

But where? Who has the very BEST steamers available in Washington County? I'll settle for preparing them myself if I have to, but I'd really rather someone else do all the work... remember, I'm treating myself!

Ideas?

Jen,
I prefer to harvest my own. Netarts bay cockles make good steamers, and throw back all the big ones. MMMMMM Now you got me going. Dang, it's a long drive to the coast...but now I gotta have some clams. Maybe I'll take a couple of days next week...

Steamer's in Portland or Libby's in Milwaukie. I know, they aren't in Washington County, but not THAT far.

Then there is Todia in downtown Portland, and desserts. Lunches are 1/2 price of dinner.

I refuse to date myself but there used to be a little tavern on Sandy, I'm guessing around the 30th block, that did an awesome bucket of steamers. It was huge and hot and the beer was good while you waited for it.

A pox on you, OceanBlue, for starting this thread!!

Pilar ended up going to Uwajimaya and buying manila clams. He steamed 'em up on Sunday evening for us. YUUUUMMMMMM! I don't think we could have had any better!

Pal's Shanty. Oh, yeah. They had killer sandwiches, too.
We used to go in there after league bowling at Hollywood. They also had a location in downtown Milwaukie, not too far from Libby's.
Is either one still around?
This thread has me going, too. Visions of steaming piles of clams are dancing through my head, which is a nice change from the usual voices in there.

Pal's Shanty. That's it!

And, according to the Yellow Pages, its still there.

Good one, 1Pump. Thanks.

Just for info Libby's took over the old Pal's Shanty location in Milwaukie. U\Yes they are still there.
If you are making your own steamers, don't forget the magic ingredient, a big shot of vermouth
