Default Coal Creek slough

I had some fun at the slough this week. And it looked like this bass had been fanning a bed the tail was all tore up and bleeding it was kind of odd.

yes you can fish it in a boat but you have to be carefull in some places you can go in and then go to come back out at low tide and and be stuck cause it will be less than a foot deep. and it does connect to the columbia.

If you want to fish the mouth just launch at Willow and run down to where the Stella Tavern is...that is the opening of Coal Creek.
Lot of side channels and structure to explore and the chance of getting stuck in the mud are much less comming from this direction.
The rip-rap along ocean beach and the blow down trees are prime areas.
Small spinnerbaits and expescially in-line spinners (think trout, as in black rooster tails) are great in the late day in the upper third water column.
Careful though. Throwing spinners thjis time of year near the mouth can result in a hook-up with those pesky steelies.

you can do a google search for Willow Grove boat launch or try this...
Take first Longview exit and then take the 3rd avenue/industrial exit. At the stop light take a left and stay in the right lane.
this is Industrial way and you just stay on it. There will be a sign letting you know that you are 6 miles from the launch.
The road takes you by a lot of the mills that line the Columbia but just keep on going straight.
Willow grove road is well marked and will be on your left. One of those "can't miss it "type things.
Launch your boat and head downstream. About two miles from the launch you will see a few Big white buildings on the Washington side..That is all that is left of the community of Stella. Head towards the buildings and that is the mouth of Coal Creek slough.
Party on

On a good day it can only be rated as a "fair" fishery.
Just not a good number of fish..or big fish for that matter to make it a 'go to' destination.
Good learning place though. A little bit of everything except lilly pads to let a guy try everything in his tackle box.
Every now and then a guy will be there when every fish in the area is a willing biter but that is the exception and definately not to be expected.
Handy place that doesn't really get too much pressure, stays wind free and is pretty conveniantly located.

you may very well like it. but i am maybe thinking we were setup? lol
oh, sure come on up.........there are lots of fish to be had here.
we fished from the mouth up to the first big off shoot there was tons of structure and should have been fish. some old barges and trees and such. then ran up to the old boat ramp. fished under the bridge and about 300yards down stream from there nothing. could've saved about ten mintues drive and went to silver. fish in the boat there for sure.
maybe one of the local pros should take me out and show me how the locals do it.
