Default Cowlitz smelt report Monday March 1rst

Just for those that might be curious I drove a long two miles+ to the Cowlitz and didn't see a single smelter trying.
I didn't see a seagull or sea lion either.

Still got my fingers crossed.

I hear the columbia is full of them, but they are waiting for slightly warmer water to enter the rivers in numbers. This is the report from GI Joes anyway.

Or is that early "early strain" coho?

Just kiddin' Greenbutt!

Hope that is true!

Guess I'll call Vancouver to see what I can find ouy about that.

Hey Dano, thanks for the update! I'm still driving around with all my smelt gear just hoping someone will let us know when/if the run develops, someone said they pulled some smelt out of the freezer that was marked march 16th-Cowlitz river, so that at least gives me some hope. Please keep us posted on any smelt sightings. Take it easy.

wigggler11'

There are some of us that are optomistic yet and it is in no way too late.
The water is cold also.
If they don't start showing within a couple weeks (mid March) then I will start loosing some optomism.

I'll drive down to the river in the AM and see if anything is happening yet.

No smelt means, springers are more willing to bite your kwikfish, this year because they are not full of smelt. Not all bad.

The smelt probably arent coming.

I just cleaned out my bait freezer, and found smelt dated March 25 00. We still have time to hope for smelt. Remember, the Springers follow the smelt into the river. When the smelt show so will the springers.
