Default Opinions on late 90's Merc

100 and 115. I am looking at these as a possible repower.
Old I know but it's in the budget.
PM's about these are welcomed!
Thanks

The 90s Mercs were the most reliable US built motors by far, not bad compared to the others either.

I've heard some stuff over the years about the Merc 115s and their reliability, being bullet proof and having parts available. At a certain point back in time you have "soup up" parts available that aren't now. I would suggest you try talking with one/some of the older mechanics (the ones that may have cut thier teeth on the older Mercs) about reliability on those models. I still see a lot of those taller Merc 115s on boats on the river. Try Stevens Marine, Tom's Outboard, get on the Bass Fishing Home Page (BFHP).com. There's a bunch of people and motor heads on BFHP.

I own a 95 115 and I think it's a fine power house. I use it on my 18.5 Trophy and it pushes us 30-35 mph when trimmed out. Syncronization is key to a proper running engine. Be sure to buy a manual and sync it up right from the get go. You'll be glad you did.
