Sad Day
Today is a sad day for my wife and I. We had to put our 17 year old Chinese Pug to sleep. She had been slowing down but still was doing OK then Saturday, things slipped very fast. The rear legs went out and then her kidneys. I took her in this morning first thing and stopped her pain and suffering. The whole vet staff came out and cried.
She had been with us so many years and she was always at my feet. When I sat at the computer, she was there to be with me while I read the Ifish threads. She slept on my side of the bed until the last couple months then she was on the floor by my side. Everytime I came home, she met me at the door and she always wanted to go but she didn't like the trip. She just wanted to be with me. When you visited us, she would bark at you and tell you this was her house but lean over and pet her, and she was immediatly your friend. When you went to leave, the barking began again as if to say "stay here" and she had to be held or she would be with you.
She went camping with us and even fishing in the boat, but later years she would rather stay home. Heat did not do well with her.
Yes I cried today. No one could have ever been a better and closer friend. None will take her place. She gave me true love, even when she was upset. I hope that there is a better place where we will meet again. God Bless you little Leah. :depressed:

Re: Sad Day
I'm so sorry. So, so sorry. :depressed:
I wish I could give you a hug. Not that it would help, but... dang... Why do dogs have to go so soon?
I look at Kilchis and know that he won't be around forever. In fact, sometimes I figure it out...
"He's two, I have what? 12 more years?"
:depressed:
Tick tick tick...

Re: Sad Day
So sorry for your loss. One day you will be together again. I know how hard it was to make that decision, which was for the best. I have been there myself, a few years ago. They are just so wanting to always please us. It will take time, but it will get easier, I promise. It has been 4 years since we said good-bye to our Moose, and every once in awhile, I swear that I hear him click, click, clicking across the kitchen floor to eat.

Had to do the same thing with my Scotty back in March.
Like loosing part of the family.
You will always miss your pet but just remember the good times.
So sorry.

hawgcatcher
I'm sorry for your loss, I had to do the same thing to my Best friend My Red Heeler Lyndee.
thats was two years ago and now have a Blue Heeler and i still find my self thinking of her.
I had this and thought i would pass it on to you and your's.
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Re: Sad Day
Thank you all for your thoughts. My wife and I appreciate them. That poem "Rainbow Bridge" is a great one and when we got her ashes back yesterday, there was a copy with them. It may sound morbid but when my wife and I go, we have the ashes of our last two pugs to be placed with us. Her dog "Packy" died a year ago.
An interesting bit of info. I stopped by the Animal Services yesterday to have her name off the records for her dog license and one of the Ladies there had just sent me an email that someone had contacted her about a male Pug puppy that needed a home. I did have to stop a moment and think but it is too soon the wife said. So we will wait a while. She wants to go on a cruise to Alaska next year and after that she would think about another.
Thanks again to all for their thoughts. Ifishers are great.
