Default Beaver fans can all exhale...

Today Steven Jackson was cleared to play against the Boise State Broncos.

A MRI revealed a "slight" knee strain.

If you see me limping it is due to a pact I made with Satan

Thank goodness Derek spotted the poor Aggies 13 points. I mean we wouldn’t want to go out and actually win with a decisive victory.

Oh well, it's a victory and Jackson is healthy. Although, if it wasn't for Anderson's pitiful play, Jackson wouldn't have been needed with 6 minutes to go against a team that, on paper, shouldn't even be on the same field.

BSU has been tough in years past, but I haven't kept up with them this year. If Anderson can keep his head out of his arse, the Beavs might have a chance.

If BSU plays like they did against Idaho, OSU could start the J.V. second string and win. I hope my Broncos can get it together and make a game of it.

Dear Beaver Fans,

Please keep in mind the journey that our football program has been on in the last few years. It wasn't that long ago that we were in the midst of a 28 year losing streak. Sure, expectations have been raised but we haven't reached the upper echelon (sp?) just yet. It's gonna be kinda painful if you start falling off the bandwagon already. Keep in mind that this year we have nearly a complete new coaching staff which always takes time to adjust to. Plus, Derek Anderson is only in his second year of real action. Many of the top QBs to come out of the Pac 10 struggle mightly in their first two years (Carson Palmer and Kyle Boller - two no playing in the NFL come to mind) so please be patient.

Remember, in football, wins count. And when the season's done with, it won't be about HOW, but about HOW MANY.

Here's for continued improvement in all aspects this week against BSU and another win. Fewer penalities, better O-line play (did you notice two starters were out for the majority of the game last Saturday?), NO injuries, and less fickle fans (please don't boo our own team - really it's not that bad!).

I was there on Saturday and it wasn't pretty. All I can say is that was the most embarrassing win I ever seen! The only guy showing any extra effort was the guy waving the flag during the half-time show.

Oh, how the attitudes have changed. Remember when the Coug fans couldn't talk smack because they were losing to Idaho?

Heck, the next thing you know they'll actually WIN a Rose Bowl, instead of just showing up and getting slapped down.

I sat in the stands for most of the 28 years. I watched OSU lose by 3 or as an official decided yet another game against OSU. Does anyone else remember when Marc Wilson and BYU came to town? So, I know, trust me, I know.

Say what you want, but I remember when USC had more fans at Parker then OSU did.

My degree is from OSU.

Bandwagon???

Less fickle fans?

I am a life long fan of the Beavers, Steelers, Mariners... and yes, the Blazers

All right, you can get all sanctimonious, but there are 22 MEN playing on that field. 21 are busting their guts to win. One of them is overrated and has the intelligence of a rock. It doesn't appear that Scappoose did us any favors. I have stuck up for Anderson, even went as far as to use the Brett Favre comparison. He just does not seem to have the savvy.

I pray that he makes me eat these words, I’d gladly do so.

IMHO

Krue, you nailed it. At the start of last season they decided to cut the play book in half. This to me was the realization that the QB couldn't remember all the plays. I'am also a life long Beaver fan,and as a fan,I'am not interested in anymore building years. If Riely doesn't come through,he's gone. And with some of the play calling I saw at Fresno St.,it may be sooner than later.

It's looking more and more like that incredible start Anderson had last season was just a fluke. Too bad because it seemed like he was gonna be special.

Kruechief and freespool, I'm just curious. Did either of you play any football at the college level? Or high school for that matter? You both give off the impression that you are experts on the subject so I thought I would ask.

Also, have you seen the Pac 10 stats lately? I bet you would be interested to see who is leading the league in passing yards. Sure, he has again struggled with INT's, but I place part of the blame for his performance at Fresno squarely on the coaches shoulders. No QB is going to excel when he's forced to rush to the line of scrimmage in order to get the play off in time. They need time to get their presnap reads - what coverage is the D in, are they showing blitz, etc. The pick down near the goal line against Fresno when he threw the swing toward Jackson is a great example of this.

I am not trying to give Anderson carte blanc this season. I would agree that Rothenfluh needed to have seen the field against Fresno. However, given the circumstances I think he has done OK. Helped lead the team to a bowl game in his first year starting as a sophomore (remember that - we did go bowling last year), breaking many OSU passing marks in the process. So far this year, he has struggled but we are still 2-1, with our loss against a decent team in a very tough place to play. If he doesn't continue showing improvement, then there will be reason to expect a change. But for now, as he continues to learn a new system, and adjust to shuffling in the offensive line (three starters were out most of the game last Saturday), please be patient and hope for the best.

My only hope from the fans, including Kruechief and freespool, is that they continue to support the team and not have too high of expectations. We are not going to go undefeated this year, nor will we win the rest of our games. Realistically, we should be hoping for 8-4 or better and another bowl game. Also, if you don't feel like cheering our players, regardless of whol they are, please don't boo them. Again, they are young men busting their rear ends year around trying to do the best they can. Although, I'll amend that statement to say boo all you can when guys continue with the bush-league personal fouls that plagued us in the first two games, but were pleasantly absent last weekend.

Sorry for my rant.

So where is your criticism of our receivers? Part of the reason he locks on to Newson is that he has nobody else to throw to (OK that's a little drastic, but close!) Our #2 receiver for crying out loud is a walk-on. Farley, besides running horrible routes, can't catch when it's thrown to him and is tentative when he should be going after ones not right on the money. The offseason loss of Jayson Boyd and Deondre Alexander is showing it's damage now. Hopefully, we'll start utilizing our deep corp of tight ends more. Euhus keeps getting better, blocking and receiving, and Newton has tons of potential. Other than that, nobody has stepped up.

With regards to our competition so far, yeah it hasn't been what the Pac 10 will be but it hasn't been that bad. Sure Sac St was bad but we clobbered then as we should have. Tough loss to Fresno in a tough place to play. NMSU isn't as bad as some make them out to be. They felt cheated last year when they weren't selected for a bowl game. Plus, after the 'bloody ball' fumble and the fake punt, and we outscored them 28-3. Granted the test will get tougher this weekend, and I'm really looking forward to it.

I guess my glass is just half full, not half empty. If we end up with a losing record, then, yeah, I'll be ****ed to. But when was the last time a first year coach won the Pac10? Or the last time a non-senior QB led team won it?

I'll be there Saturday, dressed in orange, cheering loud and proud. Besides, it's always a great day to be a Beaver!

Blackdog, what I'am saying, and his performace proves beyond a shadow of a dought,is he can't read defences. When the primary reciver is covered he can't find anybody else to throw to. So he runs around and then throws into coverage, which is why his int. are so high. My other point is these are cup cake teams we're playing, what's going to happen when the real competition starts? I wish I could share your optimisom, but with the player that's supposed to do all the thinking playing like this is first year.I'am worried. And I'll tell you this Blackdog,I watched the bungeling Beaver teams of Andros, Avazono, Fertig and Pettybone, and I for one don't need anymore bitter pills to take thank you. I think the new attitude should be produce or perish, and that goes for the coach as well as the players.
