I'd like to collect the $25 mil on his head, but other than that, I don't give a crap what he's doing or where he is.
All I know is that a lot of people in this country have caved in to terrorists in the last two years.

I don't totally agree with 24/48, but I'm a little skeptical of GW's agenda for the "War On Terror".

It's pretty clear that Bin Laden was behind 9/11 (just as it is clear that Iraq had nothing to do with it). We need to take him and his leadership team out. If that makes martyrs, well, so be it. From what I have read, that will not change the passion level much in the Islamic fundamentalists much. That level is already pretty high.

However, we are finding that it's harder than it looks to take them out, and I don't think the smart money is betting that it will happen any time soon. We have screwed the pooch on that one. Did you all know that the CIA had him in their sights last fall, but didn't act, because they were worried about backlash violence against CIA troops around the world? That's right, the CIA had a bead on him, and chickened out, because they were worried that killing Bin Laden would put their people in peril around the world. Not the American people, the CIA operatives. Excuse me, but I think that's part of the risk that goes with that paycheck.

In this whole saga, I am appalled at the weakness and sloth that have been displayed by the FBI and CIA, and by the partisan manuevering that has weighed down the aftermath. We don't need Patriot acts or increased security measures - we need to have the rules and procedures that have been in place since the 70's to be followed, and for the leadership of these organizations to show that there is some weight in their BVDs.

The FBI could have stopped the planes. The CIA could have killed Bin Laden, several times. These opportunities occurred under both Clinton's and Bush's watches. What we have here is a failure of will. We can only hope that we have learned from these lessons.

I recently read a very interesting book that details the formation of the first terrorist cells in the US, how Al Qaida formed and evolved, what the US did and didn't know along the way, what the US did and didn't do (and why), and ulimately the intelligence failures leading up to the 9/11 attacks. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in this area.

The book is titled: "The Cell" - Inside the 9/11 plot, and why the FBI and CIA failed to stop it .

Another good read is titled: "The Killer Strain - Anthrax and a Government Exposed" which takes a detailed look at the anthrax attacks that immediately followed the 9/11 attacks.
