Default Knife on a keychain, bad idea!

We were partying a while back, and a friend showed me a baby Gerber lock blade that he'd found. I bought it from him right then for a dollar or two(fool).
I drilled a hole in the end of the knife (no not through the blade) and put it on my keychain. Very handy, until.....

I used it to gut out a chinook at PC boatramp. Everything's good, right. Wrong, when my buddy dropped me off at home with my fish, I dug into my pocket for keys, NO KEYS. Thinking back, I knew right where they were. On a rock at the boat ramp, attatched to my little Gerber.
I called the police in Tillamook and told them right where they were, on the right side of the ramp going down.
They were nice enough to say they'd go look for them, and I was going fishing the next day anyway, so we agreed to meet each other at PC the next day and the officer would give them to me then.
The next day the cop shows up, I'm already fishing, and I get my keys that he retrieved the day before.
He said, "by the time I got there last night, the tide had come up and I had to hop rocks over 2 ft of saltwater to get to those keys" (luckily the rock they were on wasn't under water yet).
I took the knife off the keyring, and learned a good lesson.
Thanks to Tillamook County Sherriff's Office.

Hey, that is definitely above and beyond the "call of duty". You are lucky to get that kind of "protect and serve"!

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I graciously thanked him. And I agree with you, cops like him make up for some of the other stuff you hear about.
I have had a lot of good experiences with cops.

Lucky you got those back.

After reading the topic title I was waiting for the "almost cut my finger off when I reached into my coat pocket story"

This fine deputy is typical of the 95% of law enforcement professionals in our country who do their jobs with courage and dedication. Since he is a professional, he probably would have politely refused any gratuity offered.

Unfortunately it is the other 5% who get most of the publicity.

Sounds like that deputy is an excellent candidate for a thank you note taped to a few boxes of Krispy Kremes!

Cops have a tough job. I've worked with them for years and really enjoy their company. They work hard and most play hard. Gotta love that in a person...

I'm guessing the officer that retrieved your keys felt really good about doing it and probably made his day.

Write a letter of thanks to his boss. Let em know how thankful you are for the officers actions. That will end up in is yearly evaluation. Letters like that mean a lot to officers who go a little farther to do their job.

Todd Anderson is the Sheriff of Tillamook County and a great guy. He is also a heck of a good fisherman. He spent a week fishing for kings in AK this summer.

I'm with K9jeff- email Todd about his deputy's great actions.

Here is Todd's email: tanderso@co.tillamook.or.us
