Default Ever forget something important?

Well we headed out for our first day chasing the mighty spingers and we thought we had all the bases covered. Oh was I wrong! The tide was later so we started by gator fishing for a bit with no success. When the tide changed we were all excited and ready to go. The Kwikfish were cleaned, had fresh bait and tuned to perfection. Knowing full well that we would have to get a bit lucky since the river was not loaded with fish we just waited for our chance. Then it happened, Tailhunters rod got buried with a nice chrome springer and when i went to go get the net it was not there. Damn-it! I left the net at home. He fought the fish to the boat and I attempted to put it in the boat, after noticing it was a legal fish. The fish jumped numerous times before it settled down enough for me to try again. Well the fish after three trys it decied to leave us for greener pastures. I felt like crap. The frist springer of the year and I blew it! For a guy who prides himself on being very well prepared for everything that could hapen on the water I sure blew this one. Tailhunter was a sport and didn't kill me. That is not all, after that happened I called my wife and told her what happened and she just laughed. We did not manage another fish for the day and the day was still a success of sorts. One trip out and one springer on, We can't wait now that we have a taste. When I got home my wife and the neighbor had decided it was funny and they put my net in front of the garage door. I think they thought they were Funny, haha. It was a great day on the water, the springers are coming!

Your wife must be of the school of thought that says "if you can't laugh at yourself, pick someone else and laugh at them."
Is it legal to club the fish, then boat it?

Although I did forget my net once, my biggest mistake was when I accidentally grabbed the top half of one rod and the bottom half of another rod. I didn't notice it until I drove an hour, then hiked in for 20 minutes to the river.

(ever since the time I forgot my net I started carrying a gaff hook in the boat)

put in at the wilson sans vest ( w/ everything in it ) ran up to guide shop to buy 2 spinners and a jig. At least i had plugs in a tacklebox under seat.
Deputy at Sollie asked to see my fishin' license, I told him my drivers would have to do as my fish lic was at home in my vest w/ all my gear.
he then asked to see floatation gear and a whistle, no whistle, he handed me a orange whistle and said that folks with all this gear usually have a license ( think we had 9 rods between the 2 of us).
He took the info and went back to his truck while we loaded the boat, when he returned I was thinking about appearing in court for this but then he slapped a safety sticker of the boat. He also mentioned that as lond as he'd been doing this job, he could spot a non licensee a mile away. Not sure whether he'd called it in from his truck. Cool guy though, sorry I can't remember his last name. ( First name being SIR )

I've forgotten the net also. Only, I didn't hook any fish that day.
The PLUG, I'd never forget that.

I did my annual brain freeze this weekend. Grabbed everything I needed and drove to the Sandy. Put on the waders, boots and grabbed the fishing pole. I then grabbed the salmon eggs and reached for the nonexistent fishing vest. I think the dog was actually laughing. Luckily, I live about a half hour away and managed to go home and grab the "hooks".

I keep my plugs on my keychain, and since I always test fire the ignition before putting the boat in the water, I always notice the plugs.

Works like a champ for me, I have yet to forget the plugs...

My friend, there are two types of people in the world. Those who have already forgotten a net, and those who will in years to come. I know a guy or two who might have done this. One of them at least a couple times.

I think you need to adopt sort of a zen posture to this. This may actually be good. You have just sacrificed the most precious fish of the year - the first springer. That HAS to count for some really serious fish ju-ju in the weeks to come. Dontcha think?

A couple of weeks ago Elwix and I were going to do a salmon recon and fish some sturge. I live about an hour from the launch. Get everything ready and look at the dash. Ut oh, no key. Looked in the truck but I knew I saw it on the kitchen counter that AM. Good thing I have an understanding wife. Got to sit around the launch for a while and then of to fish.

so we get there, hike in fighting the brush with that 14' pole, set up my pole holder. go to get my real, i pull out a small spinning reel!, pack up and go home, she felt real bad, untill i reminded her that last year i compleatly forgot my reel at the same place

Left the GPS at home headed for a TUNA! outing. Only got 7 miles away from home before I realized it. Left the oars at home on the way to the santiam. Got 4 miles away that time. Left the fishing vest and all the tackle at home on my wifes annual birthday steelheading trip to the NF Alsea. Got all the way there this time (about an hour away)

I used to forget things all the time. Now, I have a bunch of lists for when I go hiking, climbing, backpacking, rafting or fishing. I just print one up, take a quick look and grab what I inevitably forgot.

I went springer fishing last week and forgot the bait.

Than I thought it would be faster to just run up river to Sportcraft. No, they don't open til 9:00 a.m. So I thought well since I'm here I'll run over to Fisherman's. They don't open till 9:00 either. It's 8:00 A.M.

Thank God Fisherman's is a place to have friends. They let me in early so I could get some bait. I paid them extra for the extra efforts. What nice people. They didn't have to open for me, but they did. I could have gone over to BC Angling post, they opened at 8:00, but they let me in. I will be a customer there for ever now.

By the way we didn't et any fish. :depressed: but at least I had bait.

Forgot the tackle box last year chasing fall chinook near Frenchmans. Still had the flasher/herring rig on the rod from the previous weekend at buoy 10. Got the flasher to work with the hooks right close to it trying to replace the Alvins I normally use but went home fishless. Didn't see anybody else catch fish though, so I still don't really know if my creation would work.

I have forgot things like he net or a spare rod before but last saturday I forgot to bring my wading shoes. We ended up getting half way to the river before i relized it. Luckily it was only about 15 minutes into the drive. So much for the early start.

Yeah, gas hose for the kicker on an offshore salmon trip. The plug for the boat bung has gone AWOL a few times too. BTW you can't gaff salmon it's not legal. The time I forgot the net, we were off Depoe before I realized it and we forgot the downrigger balls that day too. AndyCoho saved the day and handed us what we needed after we took a beating on the VHF from the other Salty Dogs that were out that day.

It helps to know where these items can be purchased at the coast since the fishin hole is so far from home. And you kinda end up memorizing the business hours too.

The best thing you can do to increase your chances of catching a springer?? Leave the net at home!

If you're cool witted enough when you get a keeper on, you can exhaust them, and it's really no big deal.

When I was about 16, my favorite sport was duck hunting on the upper deschutes river area. Opening morning finally came, up the river I went with my buddy and his dad, ducks were everywhere, but I had left my shotgun back in town. I had looked forward to that hunt for 6 months, then missed out on opening morning.

After a week long elk hunting trip, we were packing to go home, it was raining like, well like portland does. Had everything lashed down and ready to go. Went looking for the truck keys, shoot where are they? I had left them in a little pocket inside the wall tent, which was rolled up at the very bottom of the trailer.

A few years back I was in St. Helens when I realized I had not loaded my tackle box (it doesn't leave the boat now). I stopped by the old "Payless" and they had 1 U-20 orange flatfish.....I got one of my largest B-run steelhead EVER....just under 17#.

Forgot my WALLET last fall on a URB trip, I had my girlfriend AND HER son with me so, doing the right thing", I drove home and got it....they were polite until we were back on the water...then they proceded to RIPPED ME!!!

I ALWAYS do a verbal "roll call" in the driveway....Wallet, tackle, lunch, raingear....

Hey 5 CENTS- Didnt you forget extra batteries for the digi camera! That counts.

I launched my boat last year, parked the truck, and made my way back to the boat to see 2 guys in my boat playing with my gear. I screamed at them and he just ignored me, he was reaching over the stern trying to put the plug in for me  I did thank him.

I only once launched my boat and parked the truck went back to the boat to start it and there are no keys in the ign. good thing I am a mechanic or I would have had to drive back home, now there is a spare key hiding around the boat.
My son thought that was about as funny as could be

After a few long days of springer fishing last May the sleep deprivation finally started to kick in. As I loaded my boat, I took my new cataract oars, and 3 Lami's w/ Abu's and set them next to the ramp so my coolers, tackel boxes, etc wouldn't wounce aroudn and tear them up. Well, I loaded my boat and left... without them.

Luckily, a couple really nice bank fishermen whom I had been talking to as I loaded my boat saw what happened, and turn all my gear into the local store, who promptly contacted me. Got it all back! Whew!

I used to take out two of the three pole holders when i fished by myself(like in my garage) Well last springer season i invited my cousin and his friend and half way to the hole i looked left and looked right and realized, only one pole holder.

So back to the launch, ran to the truck, disconnected the trailer and made the seven mile trip home. And i nailed every light green there and back. Yes, i now leave all essentials in boat.

Well, let's see;

No net; been there done that.

No plug in boat= water in boat; yes got that one covered.

License?. Still in vest at home; well the drive back to get it will be short--meet you at the ramp.

Done it all; except I don't forget my lunch!

Took my daughter and her friend out of Hammond crabing two years ago, yep, forgot the net! of course I thought what's the need we will only fish between pulls. After the first pull we hit the main channel, and yes She hooked about a 20 pound chinook, being a rocket scientist at hart that I am, I took a club and attempted to club the fish, all I did was scare the H--- out of it for another few runs, then said ok, now bring it along side and I will tail it,one touch and away it ran again, after several attempts, and lots of laughs from the gals, I was so mad I lunged my hand into its mouth. In short fish landed and clubed, hand torn to pieces, havent forgotten my net since.

Oh my
Sure glad you didn't have the night lights out and the battery went dead. That would be horrible.

Glad you didn't hit any other boats in the process, momma wouldn't be very happy about that.

Good thing you didn't get demoted to a float tube again. hahahahha
