Re-phrase that Jack. Fly fishing is fishing it's just not catching.
Just kiddin' Stew. been there and done that. It's very rewarding especially when you catch them on a fly you meticuously tied.

Re: These are a few of my favorite things...
you lift your nose in a primeval sort of way and smell it down deep. fall is coming, with all that it entails. it happens just once a year and there's no mistaking it. no other season has the meaning that fall does. it's not any one thing, it just is and it's full of portent. it's close and i can feel it, but not quite yet...

The smell of fresh rain on sagebrush on the Deschutes.
The heart pounding moment when a steelhead goes out of the water to take a waking fly.......

House flies do when they land on you.
I was told they also regurgitate and go to the bathroom on you, all at the same time.
These are not a few of my favorite things.

Re: These are a few of my favorite things...
Bugling elk on a frosty morning.
Goose music.
Puppy breath.
The call of a single mountain raven.
The roar of ducks coming off the water before dawn, walking into the blind (Nick reeeealy likes that one).
The look in a lab's eye when you know he is marking birds even though your head is down in the blind, working the call.
A pre-dawn launch into fall tidewater.

Not neccesarily today but,
1: When i first met my baby girl in the hospital after trying for 15 years to have a baby with my wife.
2: And now she is almost a year on the 20th and hearing her say Hi Daddy when i greet her in the morning.

Re: These are a few of my favorite things...
I get the biggest kick out of my kids when they treat eachother as peers.
Goin' on a tuna hunt on "Pilar" when the ocean is flat and magic is in the air... porpoise dancing alongside the boat, flat, mirror-like ocean and John with that little-boy gleam in his eye as he screams "fish-on! No, Double! Wait! Triple! Oh,all 'heck'(edit) is breaking loose!"
The prospect of being swordboat crew (I can't wait to get that call!) C'mon BeeeeAchhhh! Lay on down!
