Default General Wesley Clark

What do you think? Will he run, could he win?

That was kind of my thought. I have to say that the crop of democratic candidates other than Clark are highly underwhelming. Clark I think I could support pretty easily. Need to know more, though.

Candidates that I wish I had the chance to vote for - John McCain or Colin Powell.

If he hadent been supreme allied NATO commander, hed be a light weight. I say that based on my opinion after watching him in an exclusive interview some weeks ago. He did alot of finger pointing and had very little in the way of solutions. But he is a very good speaker, and his credibilty would carry him far, hes a head above most of the others running. I would be curious to know where he stands on gun rights.

Isn't that kinda like saying that except for Charles Mansen killing all those people he was a pretty nice guy? I'd tend to think that being a NATO commander is probably pretty good managerial practice. He certainly has the national security props. Anyway, it's kind of an interesting dance that is going on.

Hey that would be a novelty...a president that has actually served in the military. Of the last four men elected president only Bush Sr. and Gore have really served in the military

Dan, that's what make him interesting. Politicians learn a lot of pandering and public opinion driven behavior that hasn't been in his background. He'd be a lot like a CEO who decided to run.

Results would likely be a lot like Eisenhower, who I believe had a few rough months at the beginning of his term as he learned how to deal with Congress.

Hed definitly lend credibility to the dem. race. I would be interested in where he stands on the issues. Speaking of pandering, Kerry makes me want to throw up after his "threat of force vote" explanation. But should i be surprised?

Wow, all this support for General Clarke.

So, uh, where does he stand on the issues? Foreign policy? Abortion? The economy? Environment? Privacy versus homeland security?

Who really cares as long as he's a dem

Actually there were questions of where he stands on issues. Please re-read.

Silver Hilton: Need to know more, though.

Fisherdan: I would be curious to know where he stands on gun rights.

The sense that I have gotten is that he's fairly middle of the road, though, since he's not running (yet?) there's no platform document that clarifies these questions.

If the democratic party leadreship were thinking, they'd be all over this guy, as opposed to the unelectables that are currently scurrying around the country.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Otolith, if your question is... Where does Clark stand on the issues, you're not doing your homework. Here is a google search link that will help you get started. There is much more info out there if you care. HERE

Wow, google, what a great concept. Wish I would have known about that before

From your link Spey, here are two sites that make Wesley Clark sound like two different people:

Bad Clark

Good Clark

So which should I believe? I think I'll wait until he officially announces his candidacy and I can hear his platform from HIS mouth. But you can go ahead and mail in you ballot now.

BTW, did you really know anything about Clark (other than the obvious) before you cast your vote in this thread? Or did you rush out to google to find some stuff to back you up afterwords? ( Come on, be honest  ) If you do or did know where he stands on important issues, I would think you would just post that info here after FisherDan asked for it.

Might be Speyfly will change his vote when the time comes if he has gathered enough new info. to change his mind.

Otolith, when looking for truth it will pay big dividends if you look at all the information and not just what fits your ideology. These days, the truth can be quite elusive.

To answer your question about my knowledge of General Clark, I have been watching him for over a year now and so far I have liked what I have heard.
