New Kid Story
Well my first post had to be in the chapel.
But I know that a fish story is in order for the new people so here goes.
Two years ago about this time of the year my husband and I were dipping smelt up on the cowlitz. It was cold windy and snowing off and on that day. I was on the waters edge and he was out a short ways on the side of the ramp a Gearheart gardens. Well with the weather mentioned here come the best part. The net would reach to his far leg so I had to be careful not to hit him and knock him off balance. We had been there for a while doing fairly well with something in every pull. This is the best part on one of my passes some how I hooked into a submerged huge sweeper branch and almost got pulled in with it. I managed to brace myself on the rock an swung it down right in to my husband. He rocked back but when he lifted one of his legs somehow both of his feet got tangled up in the whole mess and down he went. Under the water and down the river a little ways with that sweeper. He got out of the water at the end of the far parking lot after going in at the ramp. Soaking wet and his waders full to the top not neoprenes either the old rubbers. Some good sam was able to get their net out far enough so that he was able to grab it and help pull him back in. When he got up on to the bank you could tell that his old logger mentality was back in full swing by the way that he was yelling and talking and worst of all was his mummbling. He cut off his waders right there on the bank and walked to the car soaking wet in his bare feet because his socks came off with the waders.
At this point with his vocabulary telling his mood I grabbbed our net and buckets put them in the back of the truck and went home. That I'm sure was a long uncomfortable ride all the way back to Newberg. That will be a memory not soon forgotten by either of us and I would geuss for those other dippers on the bank with us that day.
I had not heard words like that come from him since our son was born nine years ago. It was also the first time since our son that he drank any alcohol and that night about a hour after we got home he was all warmed up and feeling no pain.
That hopefully qualifies for a fish story it's the best one that I can think of right now.
Thanks and I hope I can help the community even a fraction of the amount that you guys and gals have helped us.
Thanks mrssled

Re: New Kid Story
That sounds like it would have been pretty funny to see.
remember with out memories there is no past and without a past you have nothing to look back on and laugh about.

Re: New Kid Story
Sometime a "Dip" in the water somes sooner than we think. I know I took a step in the wrong place the other day, and ended up getting all wet. Thanks for sharing your story..

Re: New Kid Story
Welcome to the board. Great story. Next time he starts to acting a little cantankerous, you can ask him if he'd like to go for another swim.

Re: New Kid Story
we will have to talk tonight as some stories are better left untold. Especially for the one they are being told about.  Thanks everyone for welcoming my wife so kindly. This site is fantastic
