how big is a size 30 casting guide? what is the standard salmon/steelhead reel seat size? (for a typical 8'6" rod)

looking to make a salmon rod, but have no idea what size guides to get and what sized reel seat

Size 30 is quite big. I only use them on a big and long rod.

If you're building an 8'6" rod I'll start with size 6 and end with a 16 on a baitcasting setup.

And as for a reel seat, find the smallest one that you can find to fit on your blank, at the proper/comfortable position.

Guide sizes are indicated in millimeters which is inside diameter of the ring frame so a #30 guide has a 30mm ring not counting the I.D. of the ring material. 30mm is approx. 1.2 inches
