Brown size limit at East for 2010
Near the end of this press release about the 2 rod stamp is notice of approval of a 16" maximum size limit for retaining browns at East due to mercury content. It appears East is now a "trophy brown" catch and release fishery. I'm good with that.

Thin out the herd of 12-14 inchers and lets grow some bruisers.

Re: Brown size limit at East for 2010
Excellent news for our Beloved East lake! Makes sense with the high mercury warning. I felt awful a few years ago when I stuck an 8.2 lber with two trebles just buried in it's gills. Wasn't about to eat it due to the high mercury warning. So I ended up using it for crab bait. Felt like it was a horrible use for such an amazing fish, but, at least I wasn't wasting it. We caught a few keepers.
And, now-a-days, if you catch a monster, just take a bunch of pictures, get the length and girth and send it to a taxidermist that is well-qualified that has a mold similar to that of your fish.

I personally think it is great news for that fishery which will only help the existing trophy fishery improve even more. I only wish more government fish and wildlife agencies followed some of ODFW's practices. I have personally caught some trophies at East and after they smiled for my camera were released to grow bigger and fight another day. Keep up the good work ODFW ! !

The fishing has already been outstanding the last few years, Imagine how this change will affect it over the next 4-5 years and beyond

Re: Brown size limit at East for 2010
This is great news for EAST browns. I love to catch a nice brown but love it even more when they swim away from the boat .
I am hoping to get up to East soon. I have been away for the last few weeks in Cali on business. Now I am stuck down here trying to pass kidney stones Not a fun experience for sure.

Re: Brown size limit at East for 2010
That is good news. Of course, I'm a little worried about all those brown trout we ate since the early 60's. But my friends describe my personality as anything but "mercurial", so maybe I didn't ingest as much as I think.

Re: Brown size limit at East for 2010
I see this being a positive thing for East, but wish they would have made the cutoff 18". In retrospect (spelling is probably off) We tend to throw most browns back when fishing east and keep Kokanee and Rainbows. So all in all should be a great thing! I still need to get one of those 5-8 pounders that I hear about, I would have no reason to keep a fish like that anyways. Don't taste as good as a 15 inch kok, and once the photo is taken, let the fish go to eat a few more chubs!
