Madonna and Britneys kiss
What is your feelings about what took place at the MTV awards between Britney Spears and Madonna?

Re: Madonna and Britneys kiss
I saw that, and then the guy on Fox said, "Now don't be a prude!"
I forget the name of the anchor, but I've changed my mind about liking him so much.
I'm no prude, but that was too much for me.

Re: Madonna and Britneys kiss
I'm certainly no prude but if I had a teenager who liked their music I would have to do some soul searching about allowing them to have it in my house.

Re: Madonna and Britneys kiss
Its just a promotional thing for a few artists who are losing their popularity. No big deal. I have the video clip (hee hee), and dont worry, no tongue was involved.

Very envious of Madonna, not envious of Brittney!

It's all about marketing. Madonna is a master.
Time to pass the torch.

Re: Madonna and Britneys kiss
I don't know the demographics of this board as far as age goes .. but lets all think back to our teen or pre-teen years and the controversy our favorite musician / band created by something wild or crazy that our parents thought was over the top ...

Re: Madonna and Britneys kiss
Well, I don't own any Spears or Madonna music and never will.
As far as the "kiss" goes, IMO since they are probably not in love with each other it was just a stunt. No different than the other ka-billion stunts the entertainment industry has laid on us the past few decades.

Re: Madonna and Britneys kiss
Just another shock ploy by Madonna. The only thing new about it is that she now has an apprentice. She and Britney have something in common- They know that they don't have enough talent to get by on artistic virtue alone, so they gotta sell the sex. And Madonna's been doing that for 20 years. No easy feat for a 40-something pop queen.

Re: Madonna and Britneys kiss
I downloaded a copy of the video clip. If only I could find one with Britney and Christina kissing each other while wrestling in a vat of Jello. Mmmmmmmm....
Sorry....was that out loud?

Re: Madonna and Britneys kiss
Although I don't watch MTV anymore (I did years ago before it became so void of any morals or artistry), I was subjected to the "kisses" via virtually every other form of media. I have six children, four of them now adult sons. I am in no way a prude. However, I am disgusted by what is happening in our society today---the level of deviant, immoral behavior that is not only allowed, but broadcast freely into every home in the country. I have never allowed Madonna to be in our home. I allowed Brittany in her VERY early career, and Christina for a brief while. No more.
To the men who believe that "the kiss" was fine, even "hot"....what would your feelings be if it was shared between three famous MALE performers? I'm betting the comments would be of a completely different tone!

Re: Madonna and Britneys kiss
We don't have cable, and we don't watch much TV at all, so I totally missed it, but it was on Compuserve's startup screen, so unfortunately, I didn't get to avoid seeing a picture of it. Gross. It is a publicity stunt, but the fact that it will get some guys drooling shows that it works, and it preys upon a disturbing trend in our society. We have become so acustomed to being titillated by our media that it takes more and more to grab our attention. A revealing outfit used to be enough, but no more. Rumors of promiscuity used to be enough, but no more. Lewd dancing used to be enough, but no more. Now they have to throw in our face an act that goes against nature and morals in a desperate attempt at getting the almighty dollar. It will get worse if we let it.

Re: Madonna and Britneys kiss
Happybrew, I can't agree with you more.
It doesn't have anything to do with lifestyle choices, it has to do with degradation of our society morals, and how much it now takes to shock.
I guess I sound old when I write this, because I do remember enjoying the shock kinds of things when I was younger. But... whooaa! If this is what it takes now, what is in our future?
Frankly, it scares me. But it does do some good for me. It makes me realize just how much I need to read the Good Book and keep my life on track. Both, to set a good example for my children, and to realize that if I need shock, I can get that from the awesome power and beauty of this very earth that I live on.
I think that this generation is so fixed on TV and Nintendo to feed their needs for shock, immediate gratification and entertainment, that they miss so much that this natural earth has to offer!
Go take a look at the Montana fire picture. If you don't get a rush off of that, something is wrong!

Re: Madonna and Britneys kiss
I have a good friend in the entertainment industry and we've talked about the "shock" and extremes of publicity efforts. Do the people who enjoy this stuff ever feel like sheep?
Madonna kissing Brittney is just another drop in the (scum) bucket of marketing tactics. If you think about it, who would this type of thing appeal to? Uhh, 20, 30 and 40something MEN yeah? correct me if I am wrong, but 20-40something men dont buy Madonna or Britney music...Or do they/we?... CHILDREN DO (with who's money though?)
BUT if Dad sees something like this, they have identified with the entertainer, and as time goes by, when thier kids want to buy the stuff, parents dont often put 2 and 2 together and realize they've been used. ("Well, I see it in the media all the time, and this is what kids are into so why not"?)
Ever been standing in a department store looking into a sea of "gifts" for your children at christmas time or birthday time? The typical consumer is going to buy what they can identify with!
The stunts are a simple COSTLESS method of USING the media to reach potential consumers plain and simple. Notice how the pictures and vid clips are circulated to a very wide audience? Ever hear the line "no press is bad press"?
I think the media is more to blame for this garbage reaching us and our children than the people who do it. Two other things that unfortunately make it difficult to avoid...freedom of speech (combined with a plea that it is "art" ) and the raw, pre-programmed brains within human consumers who find sex appealing.

There are things that need left to E mail. Cool Texan has the right idea.
I'm closing this thread now. It's run its course.
