Had a trip planned to go stay at Eagle Crest resort. I get really excited every time this trip comes around, when I hear Eagle Crest all I can think about is fly fishing!!
We arrived at the resort 10pm Saturday night. That night before bed, my father in-law and I decided to put a game plan together. We decided to hit the Crooked river first thing in the morning and finish up behind our resort on the Deschutes river. Every thing worked as planned...........
Crooked river on Sunday: We started around 8am about 4 miles down from the dam...nothing....we moved to another spot.....nothing......we then found some "classic fly fishing water" and began swinging....Not long after father in-law lands a 12incher....soon after I nailed a 10incher...for the rest of the day until 1pm we landed around 10-12 fish with the biggest being 13inches...most of the fish were caught nymphing.....
Deschutes Sunday night: We headed out our back door around 6:30 pm. Long story short, it was slooow fishing...I ended landing 2 fish and loosing 2 others...the water was super warm and there was a lot of swimming activity a few hours earlier...3 out of the 4 fish hooked came on a dry fly....Also, as you can see we had a furry friend walk up to us asking for some grass!! It was crazy to see a Doe that tame...
Fall river Monday morning: First off WOW!! what a beautiful place...We started near the hatchery and walked up river and WOW!!! There were fish EVERYWHERE!! It didn't take long to land my first, then my second and so on....There were several 3-4lbers in there but we couldnd't get them to budge....We landed approx 20-25 fish with the largest being 15inches....If you have not been to the Fall river and you love to fly fish, I highly recommend checking it out, it is heavenly up there!! ALL fish were taken on sinking flys!! Not one on a dry....
I didn't get many pics cause I was wading in the water most of the time and was afraid to take my iphone out there with me...Next time I will take a real camera and get some much better pics....
The 4 flys you see were the most successful flys!
