Re: Need a swimming lake in Mt. Hood area
I swam in Trillium Lake a couple weeks ago. Quite nice. Caught a trout, too (not while swimming). It's pretty popular, though. Also, yellowjackets were fierce - but not at the shoreline.

Thanks all. Okay CT, I can see you haven't lost that sense of humor! Did you buy a boat yet or do I still need to save you a seat next spring?

Re: Need a swimming lake in Mt. Hood area
Burnt Lake is great, but the hike up there is less than pleasant, especially if you have little kids and a lot of gear.
Clear Lake sucks this time of year 'cuz they use it to irrigate Tygh Valley.
How about Timothy Lake? I haven't been up there in years, but there used to be a long boom across it by the dam that you could walk on and swim off of.
Lost Lake?

Need a swimming lake in Mt. Hood area
What are considered to be the better "swimming" type lakes in the Mt. Hood area? We want to go up for the day out of Portland on Sunday, picnic, just hang out with kids on a hopefully warm-enough & clean mountain lake. Needn't be large, developed or easily accessible, a few miles of rough or gravel road won't hurt (if anything, I want to avoid huge crowds). I will be traveling up via Sandy.
Thanks,
Biederboat

Re: Need a swimming lake in Mt. Hood area
You might try Frog lake or Clear lake, no boats with motors on frog lake though and very few boats on Clear Lake. Both are easy access of the Hwy.
