Default Sunday on the Sandy (Report)

Well I got a late start. I figured that I wake up every morning at 5:00am for work I should be able to sleep in until 7:00. It was 8:30 when I finally crossed the river and made my way to the hole I fish. What was I thinking it was going to be open that late? So I sat down and BS'ed with the guys fishing there for about ten minutes. Sounded like it was going to be a SLOW day. But good for me that I made a promise to the fishing gods that I was going to give all my fish away if I had a good day fishing. I made my way down to some hard white water and started fishing the pockets. "Fish-on". I yelled to the guys above me "You want this fish". They said "no", so I kept fighting it. This fish was a runner. I found my self having to run down stream to keep up with it. I got to a slow part of the river and saw two guys fishing. I asked them if they wanted a fish. One said "sure". It was a nice fish he caught. ... As I walked away I turned back and asked if either one was from Ifish. To my surprise one said "yes". FISH ON 44 was there fishing with a friend. Was a pleasure To fish with you Paul. I went up to where I was fishing and didn't hit another fish. I moved up to where I like to fish and fished a bit and I got hit again. There was a guy fishing above me and he had never caught a steelhead before, so I handed him the rod. He banked a 6lb buck . About thrity minutes later I hooked a beautiful nate. I had the new guy fight him as well. That awesome nate was put back no harm done. Wow, my day was going so well. I sat down and took a break. I was real happy. When I got back to fishing I hooked a real nice hen. As I got her to the bank I rememberd my promise to the gods, but she was so brite. I did what most every angler would do. I kept her. FISH ON 44 took and few pictures for me and I hope I can show you her in a few days. We put her on the scale and she was 10.2 lbs. I did it to my self. For the rest of the day I didn't hit a fish. My promise was broken..
(I hooked 4 and we got 4 to the bank. All and all the day was good ) Thanks again FISH ON 44 for the pictures and the pleasure of fishing with you

Good job yd. Thats a good mornings fishing and sounds like a great time. It's not how many you take home but the action you have.

Yarndog, I was down there as well on Sunday and started at first light as far as you can walk down after you cross. Talked to just about everybody down there and was just wondering what you were wearing as to I might have met you and not even known it I landed a nice native and saw another 7 caught and walked out just before noon do you fish the island or cross both times and then go down. I think i have only ran into one other Ifisher on the bank.

It was a great day for fishing ! It was even better watching YD bang out the fish and hand them to every newbe on the bank  !! It was awesome the way the fish gods focused such powerful karma on you . Funny how that works some days. My friend had been skunked so far this year and even though he did not hook the fish (or any other that day) he thinks the skunk is off him due to your action. I'm looking forward to the next time I get out to the Sandy. As soon as I can get that film in well have pictures to post. It was an awesome fish YD... Just don't think of how big and bright that next one was going to be if you'd have given it to me !?!

Much better luck than I had. I fished above Dodge for about three hours Sunday morning and missed one on a float and jig.

Saw one guy walking out with one that was a little dark. Didn't see or hear of any others while I was there.

I alternated between Amerman cured eggs and float/jig.

TAILOUT, I wear a Mossy Oak camo jacket from Columbia and I have green wadders and have a black and blue backpack. I have been fishing on the island because I have been catching there. I even fish the falls. That is where I caught my first fish Sunday. I am 30 but look younger. Brown short hair. We have seen each other I am sure. Maybe next time!!

Yarddog2003 is now ineligible to join the Slack Line Club that I'm forming.

I fished above Gordon Creek on Friday afternoon and Sunday am and came up with Nothing. I was trying to remain detached, to have no expectations, to enjoy just being out there--just like Yarndog might. But....it's tough to do when your line stays slack day in and out. I saw a guy with fish landed on a Lil Cleo, and I saw a guy land a small-ish native on Sunday am, but no other witnessed action despite a good number of fishermen on the river. Water looked great. Most people were drifting corkies.

I went there on saturday. If was my first time crossing the river there. I usually don't like wading that deep either. Apparently there was a guy that lost his footing crossing earlier in the morning and spent the morning trying to dry out his clothes on the the bank. We ended up fishing the 1st hole and I got a small hatchery hen. It didn't fight much and was pretty dark so I let it go. Saw a few other fish caught and one really nice fish take a guy way down the rapids. They ended up loosing it at the bank. In all it wasn't a bad day for having a late start and breaking in my new TH 1264 rod.
