Is fall your favorite season?
Fall has got to be the best seaosn there is...
For some it is the beginning of the football season, others it is vacation from the kids (school starts), for me: </font><ul type="square">[*]<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">Mnt. Angel Oktoberfest</font>[*]<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">Verboort Sausage & Kraut Festival</font>[*]<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">Deer hunting season</font>[*]<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">Bear hunting season</font>[*]<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">Elk hunting season</font>[*]<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">all the fresh harvests</font>[*]<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">the State Fair</font>
<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">
...did I miss anything?
Which season is your favorite?

Doves, bandtails, grouse, tidewater chinook.
But, it drives me crazy trying to fit everything into about 60 days.

By far, the best time of the year. Winter steelhead is a great season also.

Re: Is fall your favorite season?
Fall is with out a doubt, my favorite season. It all starts with O-fest in Mt Angel. I live less than 10 minutes away. We know all the back roads into town and have some secret parking spots. We end up hanging out over there every night, walking around town, eating, having a couple of german beers with friends.

I love the vine maples turning crimson red, and the alder leaves curling up and covering the roads in coast range.

Warm days, cool crisp nights... then cool, crisp, sunny days.
Fall is a season of bounty and change. Both spring and fall are neat like that.

Re: Is fall your favorite season?
Ah good old OctoberFest at Mt Angel.
Went to that shortly after first moving up here. Went with some new friends/coworkers at work...so needless to say I was trying to put out a good impression so that I'd be welcomed into the group. We get there, and the transformer blows....no power. Sorry folks, gotta go.
So we go to Wankers...the guys tell me its cheesy, but a decent meat market. Off we go. We walk in, pay our cover charge, and head to the bar for a beer. Now keep in mind, at this point I am new to Oregon and the Northwest....just came from Texas. I walk up to the hottie bartender...and see 20 beer taps, none of which look familiar. She asks what I want...I hesitate while I try to simply read any of them. I finally point to one, and say (in my minor drawl) "What is the second one from the right?"
She replies..."Um, excuse me?"
So I repeat, in my minor drawl, "What is the second one from the right?".
She gets a mean look on her face, looks me dead in the eye and says "Tell ya what buddy, you're cut off here. We're not going to serve you tonight because you are obviously intoxicated."
Needless to say, I am a bit confused since I'd only had 1 beer at Mt. Angel, and that had been a good 30-45 minutes prior to this.
"Excuse me?!? I haven't even had a beer...how can I be intoxicated?".
Long story short (sort of), they wont serve me....which is a joke. My friend tries to reason with her..."Look, he's from Texas...they all just sound like they're drunk, but they're not". Doesn't help. So I go to the mens room while a friend gets me a beer. Problem is, the bartender sees me with the beer, and sends Tiny, the bouncer, to come escort me out.
We talk with him (this guy is HUGE), talk with the manager...the deal is, we have to go, but will get our cover charge back since we'd been in there all of 4 minutes. As everyone is leaving, my Southern charm flares up and I ask this bouncer if I can at least finish the beer I paid for. He flexes a little, shakes his head and says "Not a chance buddy".
So, being the polite Southerner that I am, I think about this answer, shake my head ok, grab the beer, chug it all down in a split second before he can react, give him the finger, and turn to walk out. He follows me to the door, I turn to give him one last look, he smirks and says "well, at least you have guts (not guts, but the brass things...iFish might censor that)". I smile and say "You're lucky...cuz I'd have hurt your fist with my face pretty bad!". And we leave.
Haven't been to Mt Angel, OctoberFest or Wankers since. That was the night that I was introduced to Stars Cabaret....and yet another difference between Oregon and Texas. It was the night I knew I'd never move.

Re: Is fall your favorite season?
Fall rules.
Steelhead on the "D", Silvers in PDX. Grouse in the West, grouse in the East, big Idaho trout, panfish, searun cutts. I scamper all over the place in Sept.-Oct.
Gotta pile up a whole year of livin' into two months!!!

Re: Is fall your favorite season?
Cool Texan,
Mt Angel is cool, no chance of getting cut off there. Unless you pass out. And that is not a good place to do that. You'd probably wake up in somebody's camper dressed like Minnie Pearl.

Re: Is fall your favorite season?
I do love fall like the rest of you, but for some different reasons.
RAIN, I love it when it starts to rain.
Tackle football with the guys in the RAIN.
Dirtbikes in the RAIN and mud.
I love fishing in the RAIN, and hunting in the RAIN,
cause then you get to have a warm cup of hot cider (im not a coffee drinker) and eat a bowl of oatmeal and watch it rain. after you enjoy the wet.
I love the northwest, and call me weird, but I love the rain too.
