So, I drive up to the gas station tonight..
I tell the kid working to fill it up and his reply, "where out of gas" i'm like what???
They were out of regular almost out of the higher priced stuff asked him if anyone else in town had any, his reply, "heard they were out as well"
Asked him why, he said there was a gas shortage and they weren't getting very much.....
We are in a gas shortage?????????????? What did I miss?

I agree with ampersat. The stuff about shortages is garbage. It is just an exscuse to raise prices. I talked to my sister back in kentucky and she is only payng a 1.40 a gallon for regualr

Re: So, I drive up to the gas station tonight..
They will investigate and after receiving a huge campaign donation will find nothing. Sounds like what was going on with another little company and power prices anyone remember ENRON? They "investigated" them during the rolling blackout times and found nothing. As soon as Enron goes down, all this evidence of price fixing comes up. They are all cheats!! I can't wait until we have a fuel cell alternative.

Re: So, I drive up to the gas station tonight..
I've heard there is a refinary down that supplies the pacific nortwest. That is why the price has jumped. Gee didn't this just happen a few years ago?
Here in Longview average price for regular is $1.99. Good thing we have 2 ARCOs. They are at $1.85 a gal. Unfortunately can't run that stuff in the boat(alcohol added).
And Oh, I read that in Arizona they had a main gas line break. That is why it is going up there.
Sure are coincidences of all this gasoline supply problems all of a sudden in different parts of the US.
Sound like price fixing to me....

Gas shortage  - I wonder if the issue is that the local distributor's are trying to buy less from refineries at the current price hoping it will come down after the holiday? I don't believe there is a national shortage, but perhaps a local one.

Re: So, I drive up to the gas station tonight..
When I was in Germany 23 years ago making $475 a month, gas was about $3.00 a gallon. When I was in Japan 7 years ago, gas was about $$1.25.....a litre. Yes we pay what seems like a lot, to us, but if you got to either of those places that are relatively rich, you don't see lower income familys with a couple 4x4's and a $20k sled in the driveway. Whayt we pay is real cheap compared to most of the rest of the world. And yes....I'm thinking the "shortage" is a fabrication by mega-corporations that will post huge profits in the next fiscal quarter

Wow Dave, gas is cheaper in Bandon than here! But then again, it might as well be free since they do not seem to have any anyhow.

Re: So, I drive up to the gas station tonight..
1/4 tank in my 4x4 so I have the gas attendant fill her up. I use a credit card. I'm not paying much attention. The kid comes back to my window and says, "mister, the pump clicked off at $50.00 that's our limit. I don't think your full, do you want me to run your card again? I said your kidding right? Nope, he says. I turn on the key and he's right I am not full. Give the kid the card and go again. Man, never paid two times at one setting for a tank of gas before in my life. Guess I had better get used to it.

Re: So, I drive up to the gas station tonight..
Well I guess I need to look at the bright side of all this expensive (to us) gas.... I can now afford to drive my 7.3lte disel truck a lot more since disel is only a 1.81!!!!!

Re: So, I drive up to the gas station tonight..
A number of people keep comparing what we pay for gas here in the US with what other countries pay for gas. The other countries that pay $3.00, $4.00 or more per gal. don't have any oil in their country. They are totally dependent on imported oil. The U.S. is not. We have a lot of oil coming from right here in the U.S. It is not fair to try to compare us to the other countries. We shouldn't be paying the same as them and shouldn't expect to pay near what they do.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">The Attorney General of the State of Washington was quoted today as stating that there is no conspiracy. It is a simple case of less supply, for several good reasons, and seasonally elevated demand.

Re: So, I drive up to the gas station tonight..
Conspiracy,
Why wouldn't we expect to pay just what Europeans do, correcting for shipping costs? If you owned the oil well, why would you sell oil to an american for 1.00 a gallon, when you could sell if to Europeans for 4.00 a gallon?
No, raw oil prices are pretty much the same around the world. Most other countries tax the crap out of gas, and have higher delivery costs. It doesn't have anything to do with the US oil fields, which provide less than half of our oil, anyway.

Re: So, I drive up to the gas station tonight..
No it just happens that every year just before Labor Day there's a shortage.... right... up 15 cents than back down 10 cents later.
People are happy when it drops back those 10 cents... and do not see to notice the overall 5 cent increase that remains.
It would almost be worth having your own storage tank and buying a costco-sized amount when it is low or a couple weeks before Labor Day weekend.
