Default freeze huckleberries?

can these be frozen? any special tricks? was planning on freezing than vacuum packing to keep the vacuum packer from squishing them. will this be ok?

Try putting them on a cookie sheet 1 layer deep, freezing them that way, then vacuum packing.

That's all we do. Put them in good ziplocs and freeze them.

It's easiest just to pick the whole tree and freeze it.

Dang! I used to have patience for picking those tiny things! Where has my patience gone? :smile:

It takes SO long to fill even the bottom of the bucket!

Yip, we used to flash freeze them and then cook them in muffins all winter. Yum!

Flash freeze them ~ bag 'em ~ toss 'em in the freezer. Freezing the individual berries makes it easier to vacu-bag 'em without squishing 'em. works really well. Be careful about the smells they may pick up while freezing in the open though. So don't leave them sitting unbagged too long.
