Default Seasonal fruit and berry help?

I am so sad. I didn't get my fix of raspberries this year. Does anyone know where I can buy some, u pick or not? Just something better than those rediculous quarter size flats they sell at FM for too much money!

Also, in the market for a supply of blueberries, u pick or not.

I can travel to Portland area for these, if any one knows of good deals.

I'd also like peaches, pears.... Hey... am I pregnant? Nope... I'm just addicted to summer fruits!

Funny though, when I was pregnant, oranges was my thing. I'll never forget going to a chinese restaurant and as the waiter took our order, I asked, "Do you have any oranges?"

Sorry Jen just did a bunch of baking a week ago (what is summer without blackberry pie or blackberry/peach!) and was able to get the last pickings of a peach variety called "Veteran" The orchard all ready had several varieties of apples for sale. I think Hood River had Gravenstein Apple Days this past weekend.
I guess its time to fork over the big bucks for trucked in stuff or practice apple pies and apple sauce. Had enough zukes yet?

There is a farm, store, and little train ride on the road to the Canby Ferry on the south side of the river. (Get there from Canby) They have all but the raspberries. I just stocked up on blueberries, blackberries, tomatoes, cukes, etc, etc. I walked out with three big bags for $12.50.
Like pints of berries for $1.50. Thriftway sells the same thing for $2.99.

We got, not one, but two crops of raspberries off our bushes this year. Only trouble is, the kids eat them as fast as they come in. They never made it to the freezer. :depressed: My three year old decided he'd help us pick veggies from the garden, and picked a bunch of green tomatoes before we realized what he was doing. :depressed: Then he went over to the apple tree and started picking green apples too, after we shooed him away from the tomatoes. But he only got one of those. My one year old picked almost all of our blueberries before they ripened, only one of our bushes produced fruit, though, and not a whole lot. :depressed: We now have a fence around our garden to keep the toddlers out. I hope they like zucchini, 'cause that's all that's left for now.

You can get berries of all variety frozen in 5lb bags from Bauman Farm. They freeze the excess during peak picking season. And believe me, they are ALMOST as good as same day picked. They are not all mushed up, they flash freeze them the day they are picked as whole berries. They have peaches right now, blueberries just finished but they might be able to squeeze a few pints of fresh off the late bushes for you if you ask real sweet and tell them your coming from the coast. I just picked up my order of 25 lbs of pickling cukes this morning, they wash them and scrub the spines off all for less $$ than you can find them per pound in stores. This place is an amazing family farm and I would recommend them without reservation for ANY produce. They also have a little bakery operation... besides excellent fresh pies they make great doughnuts all day. Early in the year there are strawberry doughnuts, then blueberry, right now they are starting the apple. They have the absolute BEST summer squash selection I have seen! They have a nice childrens play area with old farm equipment and swings, a small barn with goats, bunnies, chickens, llammas and the like for petting and feeding. This farm has been operating on this site since the 1800's!

Call them and see what you can swing if you're coming down anyway, if you come down the Sourgrass, it's about 2 hours door to door from Bay City.
Ask for Barb, she's one of the Bauman daughters and sweet as can be, she'll hook you up if it's at all possible. Tell her the "blue ribbon pickle guy" told you to call...

Please don't tell on me.
I'm not supposed to leave links up to outside web pages. It's in the user policy.
However, in this case, no one is competing for berry places...
I looked them up and e mailed them.
Thank you.

The kids and I used to go there and ride the train every week. No raspberries. How can I live a year without a crate of raspberries???

Hey Jennie,

Have you tried the Tri-County Farm-Fresh Produce Guide?

Thank you so much for posting about Baumans, or however you spell it. Bill said it is a wonderful place, and huge!!!

I am so pleased!
A whole crate! Pectin, here we come! That is, if there is any leftover, after I snack on them!
