Default 36th Toddler Dies:

36 children have died this summer because the people in charge of protecting them, left them locked in their vehicles in the heat. This absolutely sickens me. I just dont get it. Many of these children were left in vehicles for more than 8 hrs, forgotten. How is this possible? How these negligent jerks go on living with what they've done is beyond me. How do you remember to roll up the windows, turn off your lights, lock you car doors and then leave a precious baby strapped to a back seat? I dont get it and I'm angry and sick about it. Just read the news this morning and saw another report of a child left in a sweltering car and had to vent.

You need a license to own a pet but you can have as many children as you want with not regulation.

I am sorry, you just don't forget a precious one in a car in heat or cold like that. You made the choice to have children. Make sure you take care of them too. These acts are absolutly criminal by parents and caregivers. Oh sure, they feel horrible but it sure does not bring those kids back. What a sick society. What a selfish society. And what a crock our judicial system is.

I have to agree with TundraIII. I just sickens me.. I have a 5&7 year old.. The good thing about this age is that they can undo the seat belts themselves if needed.

But come on people you placed them in the car and then forget about them? What is so important that you forgot your child

I can handle watching and hearing about older kids/teens/adualts getting hurt or killed but my hands tremble with anger when I am watching TV and see a todler or infint in trouble. .

These children are depending on us to take care of them and ensure of there safety when possible.

Another thing that really gets me going almost to the point of road rage is seeing a child not seat belted in when driving down the road. . Good Lord please help to stop me from beating people over the head when I see this.

I am with O'City Fisherman.

How the H** do you forget about one of your children for that long? I don't care if they are in a car. Do these parents always forget to check on a child for 8 hours.

Come on. Small children need to be checked on every so often. Depending on age some more, some less. But even in thier own house parents need to check on what the chid is up to once in a while.

Call me overprotective, but if I didn't know what my grandkids are doing every 10 to 20 minutes (my 3 lovely grandkids are 2, 3 and 4), I go nuts. And that is when I baby sit in thier own house. No, that doesn't mean I am constanly watching them. If I can hear them and know what they are doing that counts. But I make a conscious effort to check.

This stuff makes me really......mad. It is unacceptable, but yet somehow "we" accept it as society. The person responsbile somehow becomes the victim, and often doesn't get it. How do these people get through life. ?

Because of these incidents, and so may others, I can only agree with the person I can't stand, Hilary. It sometimes does "take a village", and I find I am watching out for others kids when I take mine to play at Papas Pizza, the Park, the fair, etc... People come to events and get engrossed in themselves. I have helped several kids relocate their parents, only to have them look at him like I am putting them out by bringing a crying kid back, go figure.

If I lost contact with my kids for 10 minutes I would feel ashamed, and would have to re-evaluate my priorities; At this point they are still very young and they are not self sufficient yet...but even being self sufficient doesn't protect them from some scumbag.

The commerical that I like on TV is the one about talking to your children, be in their stuff, know what they are doing. Mine didn't and it is realing amazing that I survived.

You won't regret being over protective, but you might if you aren't protective enough.

Small children should never be left alone. Tragic things happen so fast. I know of four families, off the top of my head, good parents, responsible people,.... turned their back for a few minutes and lost their child. :depressed:

We have all left a child unwatched for a few minutes. And things can happen so fast. It just brings tears to my eyes.... how precious they are and how lucky I have been. You run to answer the phone, or into the store to grab a jug of milk and it happens. I went into the store (before debit cards) to pay for gas and the car started to roll into a busy intersection. Emegency break was set... the guy that helped me stop the truck looked at me and said "You set the break! I figured you didn't set the break" He was just about as shook up as I was. He could see that little bald head in the car seat.... woman leaves purse on counter screaming "my baby my baby" running into traffic trying to stop traffic.. KingFisher85 lived! But his mom had to sit and shake for a few and hold him before she should drive again.

But to leave, or forget about a child for hours in a car... how could anyone do such a thing. It is just unthinkable! I have pitty for their soul. They may have been raised that way, or just so messed up by life that they lost sight of what was really important. Hopefully their negligence will make the rest of us more allert to the responsibility that being a parent holds.
