Lost my mother today
My mom passed away this morning at 10am. She was 77 years old and had been in failing health for some time now.
She and I had not been close for many years and I tried earlier this year to reconcile with her but to no avail.
It just proves how precious time is and how petty our differences seem now....now that's it's too late.
The full force of her death has not hit me fully yet but in time perhaps I can put our relationship or lack of relationship in proper perspective and enjoy the good memories.

Re: Lost my mother today
Stew,I know what your going through, been there my friend. What helped me was to focus on the good stuff, and to somehow get peace with yourself. I know it's hard to grasp at first but you'll come to a understanding with yourself.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Sorry to hear of your loss Stew. I went through that with my dad some years ago.
Life is short! When we were kids we were worry free and life seemed like eternity. As we grow older we face reality and realize how short and precious life really is.
Some 11 years ago my dad passed away and every now and then I look back and regret waiting 'till he was given his death sentence (cancer) to spend more time with him.
Your statement has been a reminder "It just proves how precious time is" is a reminder of one of the determining factors in my decision process to move to Longview this fall. That will put me in close proximity to my mom, other relatives and close friends.
Take care and if you and Aunty M are interested in getting together with me this fall and winter and experiencing a fun fishing trip catching some SW Washington coho's drop me a line.

My heartfelt sympathy. Went thru it just a couple of years ago myself, so I know your feelings. Time will dull the pain. All my best.

Re: Lost my mother today
Sorry to hear of your loss. As my parents and inlaws are all in thier seventies. I wonder what I can do to prepare myself. However, life is a process that you can never be prepared for. You can only accept the things you cannot change. Hang in there.

Re: Lost my mother today
Stew - I am truely sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is never something that comes easy, no matter what type of a relationship it was. I lost my father about 3 1/2 years ago, and while the pain never goes away, time does tend to dull the pain and raw emotions. Be prepared for the need to give yourself time to be alone.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Re: Lost my mother today
:depressed: Sorry to hear that. I still miss my mom after 12 years. After a while you WILL only remember good stuff - no reason to remember anything else.
Take care. Grief is an emotional roller-coaster, just hold on and see where you go. It helps to talk to people.

You do have a lot of friends!
I was just out fishing and thinking about you and your Mom. I was going to post something here, but... looks like everyone beat me to it.
I am so sorry, Shane. You do have a lot of friends to take you fishing, and who care about you!

Stew,
This is Lisa, Tagster's wife. My heart goes out to you. I lost my dad some years ago to lung cancer and it was the hardest thing my family and I have gone through. Have faith that time will sooth your pain and only happy memories will remain.
Take good care of yourself.

Re: Lost my mother today
If I Knew
If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
well, I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.
There will always be another day
to say "I love you," and certainly there's
another chance to say our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear
Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

Re: Lost my mother today
Once again thanks to one and all for the kindness you've shown me.
I really do wish things could have been different but it was not to be.
The thing I stress to my children is to never let petty things come between you and those you love!
My mother had a lot of differences with a lot of people and she died alienated from two of her three sons and all but three of her grandchildren...really sad.
I've had a hard time showing any real emotion from all of this just the saddness of what might have been but never was.
