Default Yikes! Viruses like mad!

Luckily, Norton and my other protections are catching them, but somehow my salmon@seasurf.net addie is being attacked by a bunch of viruses with the header, "Wicked Screensaver".

Anyone else getting these? I've been getting 50 a day plus, for the last two days.

I think, although I love that e mail addie, that I'm just going to let it go.

I'm protected, but my trash button is wearing out!

Jen

They're getting through the firewalls here at work, and that's pretty amazing. My address was a random-picked "reply-to" address, so I'm getting all this nasty traffic back, saying "you're sending me that virus!!".

Not so, just happened to be picked out of someone's address book by the darn thing.

Yeah, we got hammered with that yesterday at work. The attachments get stripped out by the virus software, but lots of people must have it!

My office is also getting nailed by these emails with the same heading. I have had 189 so far today and they keep coming. Norton has been busy.

I have my e-mail program (Eudora) set to leave any message over 30 K on the server. I get the header, which is enough to see if it's something I want and can choose to download if I want. But the virus attachment never gets to my machine and I can delete them easily without ever touching them.

Hey Jen I haven't been sent that one but my anti virus activity has been high.

Actionnet uses Postini and they are quarantined before I have a chance to open them. So my Norton anti virus isn't seeing any action.

Even though it says I can read the msg without infecting my PC I have had no success reading one yet.

I quit replying to the msg senders a long time ago because I never had a single responce from anyone of them.

This is what the virus warning emails I get look like and what Postini looks like.

Dear simonp@actionnet.net,

ActionNet Internet's virus protection service has detected a potential

Yeah, that's what most internet company mail systems send out.

What? Your not runing Linux?

It's sad that MS has that much money and they don't bother to spend much of it on security. Notice that Mac OS X and Linux don't suffer from these problems. But I too am stuck in the Windows world at the moment. Using my big toe to turn on one of my machines a while back was not the best idea. Somehow I broke the switch and it won't boot so I'm using my laptop for work which has Win XP. I've survived the virii attacks by having a firewall (it's built into my router) and not having email addresses for longer than about a year. I rotate my addresses every so often and that prevents me from getting much spam... and when your not on many mailing lists, and don't have many individuals mailing you (see, there is something to be said for being a loner!), you don't get many virii.

MSNBC is reporting (as of Friday morning) that the so.big worm is expected to launch an attack at Noon, Pacific time, today which could bring the internet to a crawl. I suppose there's some irony in MS making the announcement via their media partner. I guess we'll see if they are right in about 2 hours.

Guess the virus problem has finely found the east side of Washington...Postini has been trapping one Sobig every 9 minutes since 9:20 this am on our account. It is interesting that we had no viruses in the last two days and now it starts here....go figure.
