Default Lower willy bass ?

I am a beginner of bass fishing and have a few newbie wuestions if I may?
1. Is there a Bass season on lower Willy? Maybe based on water temp?
2. What size, style hook do you use on what size Seneko worms?
3. I read somewhere that Bass are almost a nusance fish. True oor false? Catch & release?
4. Any charitable folks want to P.M. me with locations? I know that is propley asking too much. Lookin is half the fun but hookin up would encourage me and the kids. Thanks much.

I would call them a gift to our lakes and rivers for those that hook up with a big one. Hell I even have fun catching dinks. The only nuisance is when I can't get the hook out of their belly because they swallowed it, to release them. But they seem to be super hardy and I've seen them go through some pretty tough situations... and swim away for others to catch. I have never tasted bass but think I will next time I'm in a place that is not polluted. ramble ramble ramble. Before I Fish I thought I was the only one out catching bass while every one was out salmon, steelhead... fishing (I do dabble). they are pound for pound one of the best fights out there. I love bass. My old lady started calling me bass. Now I just got to get my trophy.

1. Is there a Bass season on lower Willy? Yes and No. You can catch then year round but there are better times to fish for them then others. Early Spring is your best shot at a bigger fish but you may have to work hard just to catch a few. Later Spring you will still get good size but you will also get better numbers. Summer can be hit or miss and size is hard to find but during the late summer look for the low pressure weather fronts as your best days to fish. Fall is a great time as they are feeding up for the long winter. Winter can be very tough but if you are a true diehard you can find some. Maybe based on water temp?
2. What size, style hook do you use on what size Seneko worms? It depends on how you are going to fish it(drop shot, split shot, texas rigged, ect.) but for a 3 inch senko I like a Gami EWG 1/0 or a Owner down shot hooks in a size 1. For a 4 inch senko I step up one size, so Gami EWG 2/0 or a Owner down shot hooks in a size 1/0.
3. I read somewhere that Bass are almost a nusance fish. True oor false? Some people do consider any non-native fish including bass to be a nusance but that is a discusion we will leave for the Community Board as that subject is pretty much off limits on the Bass & Panfish Board. Catch & release? YES. I would not even consider eating any fish that lives year-round in the Willy. If you really want to catch a bass for eating I can PM you some places that would be much better for that.
4. Any charitable folks want to P.M. me with locations? I know that is propley asking too much. Lookin is half the fun but hookin up would encourage me and the kids. Thanks much. I will send you a PM.

I've been fishing off of Swan Island from 6am-7am before work these past 3 weeks and it's Bass each morning. They're always on the smallish side of size but still quite therapudic before work.

This morning was a skunker but yesterday and the day before were great.

I'm still a noobie but wanted to chime in and say the fish are there.

I felt the difference in pressure today vs. yesterday and the day before.

Forgive the crappy cell phone pic but, in the one hour that I get before work I went 3 for 4, and this one being the "big" one of the day. Quite entertaining really.

I have been taking the kids to the Willamette Park where the Tualatin dumps into the Willamette. There are a lot of small smallmouth in this area. I even catch a dink largemouth now and again. I have been mostly fishing my ultralight with either a floating rapala (~3") or a beetle spin (1/16 oz). I usually end up fishing in the middle of the afternoon with my 5 year old and still manage to catch 5-15 bass each time out. Mostly they are really small (8" or so) but occasionally I catch one a foot or more. I would imagine that targeting larger fish earlier or later in the day would yield more and bigger fish, but then I would not get to listen to my 5 year old tell me how he is the bluegill champion of that spot

Good luck!
