2003 dodge ho diesel
Thinking of changing my ford ways. What kind of mileage are you dodge boys getting? How many miles on the truck would help me as well.
Thanks

Re: 2003 dodge ho diesel
Mine is not the HO, but a 24v with a VA timing/fueling box that puts out approx 275hp.
Around town I get 16mpg and fwy @ 72mph with the
cruise on I get 20mpg. Towing a 19ft 5500lb traile
I get 13-15 mpg depending which way the wind is blowing. Best I ever got was 22mpg @ 65mph PDX to
Eugene and back. It's a 3/4ton, 4x4, with 355 rear
gears.

Re: 2003 dodge ho diesel
Mine is a 96 Extended cab 4x4 with 354's in the rear end. I have almost 95000 on her and she runs just like the day I drove her home. I get 16 mpg around town and 19-20 on the freeway on cruise. Best rig I have ever owned.

Re: 2003 dodge ho diesel
Right now I am in the market for a low mileage Ford F350 Powerstroke crew cab, long bed, six speed. Problem is, the six speeds are very scarce. I can't find one... I know of several people who've had Powerstrokes with automatics that had major transmission breakdowns at around 60,000 miles. I thought about the Chevy Duramax diesel; I've heard good things about them and they are very quite. I would consider an automatic Chevy because Allison transmissions are legendary. But yesterday a dealer told me the Allisons in the Chevys are a joke. He said they are an Allison box with GM parts inside and that quite a few of them are blowing up in the first year. Who knows how much truth there is in that! Maybe I will take another look at Dodges. I know those Cummings engines are good but they are the loudest of all.

The new dodges are 84% quieter than the old ones. Might check em out.

Re: 2003 dodge ho diesel
There aint a darn thing wrong with an Allison tranny. They're the best on the market right now. After Ford gets some miles on there new tranny,it will probably be a toss-up as to whose is best.
A big selling point when I bought my truck was the spin-off filter and drain plug on the Allison. I do all my trucks maintanance, and changing filter and fluid is a breeze.
Drive all three and buy what you like, the Big 3 all make good rigs.
Oh yea....the dealer that says alot of Allisons are blowing up in the first year, must be stuck in 2001. The Allison has been out four years now.

Re: 2003 dodge ho diesel
After blowing up 2 tranmissions in my 3/4 ton suburban, I bought a Duramax Allison combo. I bought it more for the Allison than for anything else. I couldn't be more pleased with the whole package. It has more power than I can use hualing a 10' camper & 21' inboard sled at the same time. The tranny has never gone over 190 degrees & that was towing the camper & boat on a 90 deg day. Heat is what kills a trans & the factory trans temp guage lets you know whats going on down there.

Re: 2003 dodge ho diesel
The Cummins is a great engine...too bad it's wrapped up in a Dodge!
How about this...the new 305 HP Cummins in a SuperDuty Ford? Beautiful!
Seriously...the new Dodge trucks are nice, but I would be a little leary of thier automatic behind that new diesel.
