Default KIDS!!!!!!!!

Ok, we get to the babysitter to pick up my son (just turned 3) on Tuesday. He was hiding under the kitchen table...started crying when I pulled him out. "I've got an earing!" he said several times, holding his right ear. So, of course, we looked to see what he was talking about. Couldn't see anything in his ear, so off to home we went. Got home, and he was still digging at his ear. My wife got out the little lighted magnifiying thingy (yup, got that as soon as the first kid did something stupid), stuck it in his ear, and said "Oh my God!!". I grabbed it, looked, and sure enough, here's a little bitty pink thing, WAYYY down inside his ear. Took about 1/4 second to realize that I wasn't going to be getting it out. Got into see a doc at Kaiser at 6:45pm...she tried with long tweezers, couldn't get ahold of it, and then tried just once to dig it out with some sort of pokey thingy. That didn't work, so she backed off and said, sorry, he needs to see an ENT specialist (Ear, Nose, Throat).

So, yesterday, I got him into the ENT doc. He did really good until he saw the long pointy thing that the doctor was going to stick in his ear...so he ended up strapped to a board. Needless to say, the screams were bloodcurdling, thank goodness I was there and not my wife! Wasn't painful, just very scary. Doc stuck the little tool in, and out popped a tiny little pink bead, apparently left over from the older kids' necklace making hour.

Pretty sure he'll never poke anything in his ear again!!

My daughter did the same thing with a green bean in her nose...we were on the way out the door to the doctor...and then she sneezed! Blew it clear across the driveway

That happenned to a friend of mine when I was about 6 with a little corkie. We couldn't dig it out and we didn't want him to get in trouble. I finally put some fast drying super glue on the end of a small dowel and had him lie perfectly still for about 10 minutes until it dryed good and we pulled it right out. Glad your son is o.k.!

Ouch!

I'll never forget the neighbor kid who stuck a navy bean up his nose.

It SPROUTED! They didn't even know it was there, he was so young. YISH!

I'll never forget the awful hours I spent with Andrew after he'd have febrile seizures. They did several spinal taps on him to find out why he had a fever of 105. I couldn't take listening to the screams. You'd find me out in the parking lot. In fact, they requested that I do so. It was awful. I still have nightmares about that.

Seeing your child in a seizure is bad enough, but the pain of a spinal tap is too much.

I've been told, I don't remember it, when I was about 4 or 5, I took gum wrappers, wadded them into tiny balls and shoved one into each ear. Parents didn't notice untill afew hours later, when I seemed to be "ingoring" them. They asked me what was going on. I said I put paper in my ears so I didn't have to listen to them!

As they tell it now, they had an easy time removing them except for trying to control their laughter!

I think I had a creatinve solution to an annoying problem.

Working in a playschool every once in a while "the bead up the nose" thing happens. But not that often, I remember after my first exposure to such "child discovery" a fellow teaher told me of a child took it to an interesting level. It seems the child's mother was getting curious and a bit concerned because when she put the kid to bed at night there was this smell. Finally, she took him in to the doctors, he found massive quanities of Kleenex stuffed far up the nasal cavity. And yes the rotting tissue was the cause of the smell.
Killertraylor: I am impressed with your resourcefulness at age 6 ... and your friends trusting you to fix 'em right.

Same thing 12 years ago with my oldest daughter, now 16, had a large decorator bead off a pair of socks come off and get stuck in her ear, too deep to get with any convential tool so off to the doc.
Hum thats gonna be a bugger, too deep so off he goes, and comes back with a water pic a little warm water and in goes the water out comes the bead. Simple job pay the co-pay out the door.

My daughter did the same thing a about a year or so ago. She stuck a big pink bead in her ear. My wife thought it was a corky, and was about to get on my about it. We had to take her to the pediatrician to get it removed. They said they get one in every now and then. My nephew stuck a marble up his nose once. My wife and I snickered about it until our daughter stuck the bead in her ear. Then we were a little more humble.
