Shimano Curado SF vs. Pflueger Trion?
I always wondered how people could cast so far w/ their baitcasting reel w/ so little weight. Then it dawned on me that it might be their reel. I was leaning towards getting the Shimano Curado SF. When I visited GI Joe's today, they showed me Pflueger Trion as my other option. They've been carrying this for only a few months. It's supposed to cast further. The gear ratio is 6.3:1. It's $50 cheaper than the Shimano. Any thoughts on the Pflueger Trion? Any current users?
Tight lines!

Re: Shimano Curado SF vs. Pflueger Trion?
I'm a happy Pflueger Solara user and the Trion is a step up from that model. It's basically all the same stuff: whiffle spool, super free spin, and side plate 6 pin adjustable casting brakes.
Go for it!

Re: Shimano Curado SF vs. Pflueger Trion?
I purchased a Pflueger Trion the other day. With a coupon I had I paid $79.00. Put it to the test last Sunday on the Nestucca. The result was I was side drifting and drifting very small lead. Fought and landed 4 natives and the reel was flawless. I have heard of people having drag problems but I did not experience any. Headed for the Siletz on Tuesday for some more field testing. I'll post results.
One of the reasons I purchased this reel besides the price was I got a written guarantee from a GI Joes employee that if I didnt like the reel or it failed they would let me return the reel and put the cash towards a Curado.

Re: Shimano Curado SF vs. Pflueger Trion?
Well I own 3 of the pfluger trion reels and they all have been through the springer seasons and fall seasons now for the last 2 years and have no problems at all. I also have landed a few smaller sturgeon on them by accedent. I have to say that I have no problems with them at all for me. Also have some of there spinning reels and they are not to bad either. A few minor issues but they were all taken care of.
I also have owned 2 curado and never in my life will I own another one. they Just didn't hold up for me. The drag was about the worst thing I have ever used in my life. Although, My buddy swears by his and has not had any problems so I think it is just what you like.
The good comes with the bad you can say.
Good Luck!

Re: Shimano Curado SF vs. Pflueger Trion?
I have a couple of the BSF's and truely like em. But like with any reel I go through them once or twice a year for maintainance. This is needed for all reels. Another plus is how Shimano stands behind their reels. Send it down and it's back in a few short ones.

Re: Shimano Curado SF vs. Pflueger Trion?
I have two, a spinning reel and a baitcaster.
The spinning reel has worked quite well, no issues.
The baitcaster is awesome, smooth as silk. I absolutely love it! I've compared to my partners BSF and I feel it's just as good or better. Down side is I'm on my third one. First one got a little rough, the second the drag was getting a little "sticky". On my third and it's working good so far. I now practice backing my drag off when I'm done for the day.
Good luck with yours.

Got2fish
The plastic gears only drive the level wind, the ring and pinion gears are brass. The pressure is on the ring and pinion not the plastic gears.

Re: Shimano Curado SF vs. Pflueger Trion?
ive also heard great things about the pflueger trion caster, also heard the common drag problem with them also..
I personally like the look of the trion compared to the curado..
for the money the pflueger trion sounds like a great deal and quality on par with curados.

Shimano Curado is a good choice. Very smooth, preforms great well worth the extra fifty bucks.

Re: Shimano Curado SF vs. Pflueger Trion?
Sounds like the trion's are a good deal.
I'm looking forward to the Okuma Induron series. They're supposed to be a big improvement on the Nitryx with a 7+1 bearing configuration. $100
You all should go pick one up and let me know if they're any good.
