Default Fall --- The First Foggy Morning!

I love the first cool, foggy morning in late summer. Just like this morning --- the first one of 2003 at my house. New smells. Memories. Pigeon hunting at Cedar Creek on September 1. The first coho at the mouth of the Lewis. Deep red vine maples in the hills.

What memories do you have on that first cool, foggy morning?

Searun cutts. Drifting down a silent river, hearing just the occasional dip of the oars and the hiss of the fly line. Then plotzing when a fish suddenly boils on your fly and misses, causing the fisherman to wrap his line around everyone, and the oarsman to spill his coffee.

It's my favorite time of the year for sure.

And Jennie, could you please stay off my river?

My first fall bobber fishing trips... walking through the brush to my favorite spot... the dry leaves crunching under my feet... that indescribeable fresh fall smell in the air... spooking up a doe sipping some water from the river... the sound of huge fish splashing in the river... the sight of my bobber disappearing, and the "ssshink" sound of the hook set...

Being scared out of my wits as the fogged closed in wondering how accurate is that GPS and I wonder if I'll hear the barge in time.

The last of the blackberries, flavored with just a hint of egg cure. Air like aged wine, full of intense aromas and almost palpable.

BigW - you mean MY river...
