I've never been a player or a coach, but it seems to me that the best player on the team should be the leader, and he should lead by example. And that doesn't mean leading the league in technicals.
He's made it clear he has no interest in leading anyone. He's said it, and his actions back it up. He'd be better off with a team that already has a strong leader, but unfortunately a lot of those leaders are power forwards (Garnett, Webber, Malone, Duncan). New Jersey would be good- different conference, and he could play in Jason Kidd's shadow.

I would like to aswer your question with a question. If you owned a body shop, or any other business that had a service manager that was a great technician or mechanic. How long could you allow him to represent your business and disrupt your professional staff and produce a negative reputation for your business? Do you think you could afford to keep him as your service manager knowing how disruptive and that he was running down your loyalty and customer service?

The only way to stop a cancer is to treat it immediatly. You either nuke it with Kemo therapy or cut it out, completely out. That is exactly what the Blazers should do. Nuke the pothead.

I am completely on the opposite end of things, but at the same token, i can deeply respect those who feel this way. While it is frustrating to see these things go down, It's also sad that people are so quick to judge, and throw stones. While I wouldn't want my son looking up to the guy, I think in the same breath, "Why don't these people get over it, stop noticing the speck in anothers eye, and pull the log out of they're own!!"

So I would have to say, keep him. I love watching the guy play. And to be honest, I kind of enjoy him getting ticked all the time. It's fun to watch. If it wasn't for the weed, Who knows just how agro the guy would actually go. hehe.

I have been a fan of the blazers for a while now.. Personally I really enjoy have Rasheed around during the regular season.. He can be more then helpfull down the stretch in the 4th and it it fun watching his slamms(some are pretty impresive).

If you want to keep him around to help you get to the playoffs he is a good player for that but once we get into the playoffs he ends up short?

I personally think that getting Martin and Matumbo would be a great match for Portland. Great work ethics and good Defense.

Who cares about the money. Heck why not trade him while we can and get something out of it. He is a free agent after this year anyway. I would just like to see the Blazers keep the post season (21years) streak alive.. Eventually it will pay off and we will end up being the top dog again.

No matter who the Blazers have, they are going to be no better than 4th or 5th best in the west for a long, long time. The Lakers, Kings, Spurs, and Mavs (at least) are better teams with good young players. The Suns and Sonics are both going to improve in the coming years.

Portland needs to just spend a few years in salary cap jail, rebuild, and gear up to make a run at respectability in 2006-2007 or so. It makes no sense to spend a ton of money on a team that is always going to exit the playoffs in the first two rounds.

Unload 'Sheed while he has some trade value.

I have mixed feelings, Sheed can be a great b-ball player and he can be a liability (obviously) as far as the team's image. I don't care much about the Blazers anymore :depressed: I'll be watching Luke Ridnour & Seattle. Hope he gets a few minutes!

That said, just watch Wallace become a phenomenal player somewhere else, a la Jermaine O'Neil , Brian Grant, etc.

Well, we can always hope that he will eventually mature, or that the Blazers might pick up somebody else that can lead the team. Yeah, a change of scenery might turn him into a force to be reckoned with (he's from the Philly area, so I'd bet he'd like to play there or NJ). Let him go make his mark somewhere else. Happens all the time. Remember Buck Williams? Portland rescued him from a team that was going nowhere (NJ) and look what he did for us!
If a team's players ain't happy, they're not going to win championships. What we have here is 12 spoiled, misguided children who need a father figure, and that's not the guy in the suit on the end of the bench. They need one on the court.

Interesting to see some of the takes on Rasheed. I admire his talent but hate his attitude. Send him packing I say. Maybe he can take Damon with him too.

Thanks for participating.

Looks like they're trying to swap Wallace and Patterson to NJ for Martin and Motumbo. I like Martin, not quite as talented as Wallace, but he plays hard. Send 'Sheed packing.

Yes he should take a hike. And Blazer management should send his little buddy with him. The sooner the better.

Bernie, Great post! I've wanted to express my feeling about this "big baby" for a long time. Having coached high school basketball for a number of years, I can tell you that these high school kids idolize the pros....whether they like it or not. I hope that Rasheed is gone and I also hope that Damon is done playing for the "JailBlazers"  We really need a new image ...what ever happened to the great role models like Buck Williams, Steve Kerr, Ron Harper, Clyde Drexler, Jim Paxton etc.? I used to get free tickets to take the kids to the games... I wouldn't take kids today...even with the free tickets.... this is what I think of the Blazers
