Default There will be no Ultra Bite Vials tomorrow!

"There's a fire in the oven!" David screamed at me.

The boys decided, of all days, that it would be good to bake Chocolate Chip cookies!

I sighed. I still had to bake a cake for Thumper. People are showing up at the door, one after another to deliver goods, ask questions, or just to say hi.

I was knee deep in prizes, making gift certificates, hanging banners, and moving tables and chairs.

Reeldick had just left, and so did Atworkalot. I had given him a vial of the secret Ultra Bite, in exchange for his gifts of food for tomorrow.

It's a good thing SOMEONE got some!

I quickly opened the oven door, and flames burst out at me. Hot, stinky flames. When I walked in, I swore I could smell Ultra bite!

Black smoke poured into the kitchen.

Stump had sent four vials of Ultra Bite to give away at ifishstock. It was laying neatly out on the cutting board seconds earlier.

As I searched for the fire extinguisher, I yelled for Bill's help. Bill was out talking to a visitor. I could NOT find the extinguisher, and the flames were growing larger and hotter, and the smoke, blacker. Panic set in. "BILL!!!!! HELP!"

The smell was sickening, and not at all like Chocolate Chip Cookies.

"What have you done, David!?"

Finally, Bill arrived in the kitchen, grabbed the extinguisher, pushed way back in the cupboard, and extinguished the ugly fire.

I picked up the cookie sheet with a hot pad, and it stuck to the cutting board. Strings of hot plastic stretched from it's resting place, and clung to both the cutting board, and the cookie sheet. It quickly cooled, and the cookie sheet stuck fast to the board.

A little label, stuck inbetween, and burnt on the edges read, "Salmon troite"

UH HUH.

David, with hot pads on, had accidently grabbed the plastic bag containing the vials, with the cookie sheet... and.... SLID IT IN THE OVEN TO BAKE!

I would cry.... if I had the energy.

I did not need this today.

The smoke is toxic, and smells awful. My entire house now smells not only like Ultrabite, but BURNT ultrabite!

The oven is on clean cycle right now, and we tried to scrape all the burnt plastic off the bottom. I hope it doesn't ignite again.

I had planned to make Thumpers cake about right now.

Guess what Thumper? It's a good thing that other people are bringing chocolate cake! I really don't know that that is something I can do, after this.

:depressed:

Jen

Did I tell you it stinks in here?
This will be funny one day. RIGHT?

OK .... You're off the chocolate cake duty and forgiven .... I guess. :depressed: It IS a pretty good excuse.

Come to think of it - please DO NOT make a cake in that oven. Not til, maybe 2008.

Oh well Jen. No sense crying over burnt Ultrabite! That's gotta be nasty. It's probably too late now, but if anyone is heading out to your gig tomorrow or tonight and going by West Linn, I'd be happy to kick in 4 more. My number is 503 723-6259. Otheriwise I'm sure your fest will still be great! Have fun.

It is REALLY nasty!
I tried doing the self cleaning thing in the oven, and it turned the whole thing black on the bottom. :depressed:
I wonder if you can do oven cleaner on self cleaning ovens.
I think I'll move this over to LIG now and get some advice.
Jen

Yes, you should be able to use oven cleaner on a self cleaning oven. Just don't turn it on to self clean. Use the oven cleaner as directed.

Jen,
Several years back when my folks had a self cleaning oven, we rented the house out while out of the country. When we returned someone had used oven cleaner in it and it ruined the liner and the finish in the oven. Check with manufacturer or owners manual before using oven cleaner in a self cleaning oven. Maybe need to have the liner replaced?

Call the Haz Mat team. You might be able to get funding if they declare your kitchen a Superfund site. Jennies toxic waste site!

How awful!

I am so glad I baked a chocolate cake for Thumper now! I threw it in the oven after working half the day, while it was cooling enough to split it for the cherry filling, I was packing my bag. It traveled all the way from Amboy to Tillamook where I felt truely blessed that it fit into the frig at the hotel room.

Next year, don't worry about baking a cake Jen. I will bring two. One for the ifishstock guests, and one for us after everyone else leaves.
