Fro,
We boated a 16 lb. springer Saturday in the St. Helens area, about 2 hours into the outgoing tide. We saw only one other fish caught. Sunday we had one takedown, and saw three other fish caught in the same area.

First Springer in the boat at mouth of Multnomah Channel, trolling toward the red can, 15#
Second take down by the channel marker but lost it.
Sea Lion between Kelly Point and Cathedral Park seem to get a Chinook every hour on the hour.
Saw one other taken on Saturday there.

We put in at Scappoose bay and said we were going to springer fish but got side tracked when people were pulling in gators all around us. So, we bagged springers in favor of sturgeon (no discipline at all). We did see one springer caught however but it was a native. All and all about 10 diehards trolled the outgoing tide in our area and only one fish was caught. They should start anytime though.

Thanks for all the reports! Lucky Bill, where is the willow bar at? Another question, do early Willamette springers only go up the Oregon side of the Columbia, or do they go up the Washington side too? I want to fish by #77 can down from St.Helens on the Washington side, always seems to be a good spot spring or fall. Thanks again, Fro

Willow Bar is on Sauvie Island. Well Dave Johnsons tip the other day said to fish the narrow part of the rivers if you can, So I guess I should have chosen the channel side of the island. Seems like a nice pod of fish went up. Probably at sellwood today... Meldrum tomorrow.

I fished all day Sunday in the St.helens area. With no luck at all.... I saw zero fish Caught, and very little if anything on the finder. As far as the channel goes, it was not fishable at all in my opinion on sunday I couldnt even see my Prop.

Dad and I got our first two saturday. My rod burried about 11 o'clock and then again around 11:30. The old mad did the honors on fighting the second one. Besides without him and fishing I'd be just another kid in trouble. Beautiful 13 and 23 pound hatchery fish. Cant wait to get another.
