Default Green Grass

With our unusual warm weather, which products will turn my grass green?

PS -- I have been watering my lawn.

Green grass requires water, fertilizer and the right type of grass that does not go heat dormant. Now, green grass means growing grass which means more mowing which means less time fishing....
Do you really want green grass?

Unfortunately yes, my fishing will be limited... I plan on listing my house for sale.

I used fertilizer early in the season, but the temperature now is too hot! It will just burn my lawn, or so it says on the direction.

Set-a-Drift, Scotts won't burn your lawn during the summer heat, unless you put too much on it. Get ahold of somebody to aerate (plug) your lawn, that will allow the water and fertilizer to get more to the roots of the grass. Plug first, water, fertilize, water more.

What LCfisherlady said.

OK< You want green grass...Scotts will do the job, but you might also consider Miracle Grow for lawns...quick acting and easy on the grass......I personally think the green paint is a good idea. Been thinking about concrete and paint for myself.

just heard on a gardening show that it takes 2 weeks for a brown lawn to turn green when you start to water after it has gone doormat.

I'm kind of a fanatic about my grass, it has to look like a golf coarse, so here is what I do.

I have done allot of research on lawn care because I refuse to pay for a lawn care service and it's really pretty easy.

Your lawn needs an average of 1" of water a week to promote good root growth. Use the tuna can trick to determine watering length of time. Set a tuna can in the area you are watering and time how long it takes to fill, this is your watering length of time. I water my lawn once every fourth day on average, every third day when it's really hot. Always water in the early morning, NOT IN THE EVENING. By watering in the morning, this gives your lawn water to make it through the warm day. Watering in the evening will cause funguses to germinate over the night time that can harm your lawn.

For fertilizers, I like Scott products, they are really gental on your grass and I get better results from them than out of the other leading brands on my lawn. Go to their web site (scotts.com) and you can set up a fertilizing cycle chart for your lawn for which products to use at different times of the year, it's also a great site for information. Fertilizer is food for you lawn, like plant food for plants, the important thing about fertilizer is to be on a cycle and never let your lawn go to long without food, I fertilize every five weeks.

You should plug/re-seed your lawn in the early spring or early fall every two years.

You should thatch/re-seed your lawn in the early spring or early fall on the in between years of plugging.

For cutting your lawn, you should nerver cut it less than 1" long and cut it longer when it's really hot out. Probably the most important thing about cutting your lawn is a sharp mower blade. If your blade is dull it will tear your grass and the ends will turn brown, I mow once a week.

As you can see, like I said I'm a fanatic, I put alot of effort into my lawn but not much time because I have put together a plan that I get great results from.

JK

Wow, you will have to post a pic of your lawn. It appears I water my lawn too much... I water my lawn every night for about 5 minutes. Looks like I can save a little money by cutting back on the watering!
