Default GPS Tracking Device (Theft)

Have any of you folks tried a GPS tracker in your boat as a way to locate your boat if it gets stolen? Sometimes I will park my boat/trailer at hotels or leave the boat in the water on the beach and find it hard to sleep at night worrying if the boat will be there in the AM. I know there is several out there (LoJack) and many on ebay. Some range from $100 to $1000 and some have monthy fees and some can use a SIM card so it works by text messaging. Send a text to the device and it will reply with GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude). You can also set some up with a geofence so it texts your cell phone if the device moves out of the zone or a movement alert.

Well just wondering if any of you have used any of these devices?

i've actually used an older motorola cellphone (i415) and a website that trackes the phone real-time. http://www.accutracking.com/

i got 2 of the phones for $10 off ebay, and with a $10 boost SIM card they are disposable. i'm actually going to launch one with a weather balloon i just got, too.

anyway, you have cheap options. i stuck one of the phones under the bow of the boat tied to the 12v battery and can watch it sitting in my driveway

i get the most piece of mind with a 7' chain locked through the wheels on the trailer. not going anywhere.

there is one on ebay, cant recall the name, its good for as long as the batterys last like 60 days if I recall right, problem is many systems want a fee to track, mine is free, and will track down to 3 ft. kinda like google earth.

Cool option - What are the fees, or how do you get fee free?

I am not home, I will have to look for it when I get there, and ebay wont look up stuff past 60 days to find the seller.

its a cool piece, I never used it, still in the box untouched, if you guys want I would sell it for what I paid for it, I stepped up and bought spare batts and all, I wanted to track the kids without them knowing and never got around to it.

Why not just Camo a " Spot" Make it look like a Antenna. Pay the service fee for tracking. When you park boat.. plug spot into hardwire..

If it moves.. Google will let you know its route. Then let lawdog chase.

I like the Cell phone one.. If that is free.. With just a Cheap Cell phone.. would be handy inside trail cams too.

this is the one you want, clip in the boat, the truck, track the kids, its the bomb. and goes 84 days. I am keeping mine to cool to have, I found my stuff and I bought 2 batterys and battery charger from him also, I think it was another 50 bucks??
