Default Outlook Express/ Eudora 5.2.1

Tell me...

I have been using Eudora since day one on the internet.

I have been having troubles with it, lately, though. Keeps having to rebuild my in box, and then I lose mail. It's very frustrating.

I am thinking of switching to Outlook Express.
I need filters. I think they are called rules in Express. Like, when someone sends a contest form, it goes directly into a contest folder. It will do that, won't it?

I see that it won't import my Eudora address book. Bummer.

Anyway, do you have opinions? Why! I know you! Of course you have opinions!

Jen

I was a longtime Eudora user. Eudora has plenty of filtering capability, so I wouldn't choose Outlook for that reason. Outlook has filters, but they have not always been reliable for me, and I have never been able to figure out why.

I have not had corruption issues in Outlook lately, but had one some years back.

I'd be surprised if there isn't a way to export and import the address book, such as what is described here.

I generally like Eudora better, except for one little thing - Outlook closes the open window when you press escape, and Eudora doesn't/didn't when I used it. On the basis of that single feature, I use Outlook.

Nice to know that my decisions are based on weighty analysis, huh?

Jennie,

I prefer OE (that's Outlook Express, Outlook is more for corporate email).

I use it to manage 7 email accounts.

It has easy to setup rules/filters.

Easy to create folders for specific families of messages.

Easy to setup different mail accounts.

1. In Netscape: Communicator, Address book. File, Export. Export the address book as a CSV file. Same for Eudora though OE will import Pro/Light 3.x directly. You should be able to export your Eudora mailbox to a CSV file.

2. In OE, File/Import use CSV file format.

Hey Jen,before I got cable I always used Eudora then Att did not support it so I went to Outlook Express. With it I got my only Virus which took a while to get rid of it.Now Comcrast does support Eudora so I went back to it and in the first few days Eudora caught 2 viruses. So I will stick to Eudora because it works fine for me.If you notice all the viruses seem to come in on Outlook Express.HMMM!!
