I know that I sure as heck didn't fall out by leaning too far left.

It's not just their "salries". Toss in chefs so some don't have to 'brown bag' it. Add new furniture because the "old" clashed with the new carpeting. The list goes on... And why do we have 90 legislators? How many do we need to make decisions? (Yes, I have feelings about this...)

Re: Over $20,000 a day for the Legislature.....
Being a state employee, it really irks me that I am asked to voluntarily freeze my salary for 2 years (which is ok with me cuz at least I still have a job), reduce my retirement and benefits, then they spend money like it's coming in by the truckload. AAARRRGGHHH!!!
So I guess my answer is no, I don't think our money is being spent wisely. If we could cut off the catering service, they might pick up the pace.

When I have work to do, I like to do the hard part first. They danced around the budget for months, but it didn't go away.

Hey Lost, I couldn't agree more. Neither the D's or the R's wanted to give an inch, & all of us,
State employee or not, end up losing. The work didn't get done because, IMHO, it didn't get started. Sad, huh?

Re: Over $20,000 a day for the Legislature.....
And now what are they up to? Crafting new laws behind closed doors, with no public input. Now that's just what the doctor ordered,in a time of public distrust, which is at a all time high. I think a big problem is unrealistic campaign promises. Todays politicians set unreachable goals while on the campaign trail. Then when elected they come to realize the pie in the sky is unattainable. So they set about simulating being a law maker. Where is the vision of wisdom and leadership we so badly need? We need more Tom Mcall-Wayne Morris types.

It could be worse. You could have all of the Democrats running across state lines so that they dont have to deal with the issues, like in Texas.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Could be better with a Democratic Oregon legislature, funded schools, ODFW, police, courts, etc. and finished months ago <grin>.
