Default Grass fire ticket?

According to the news, a person was pulling a boat trailer and somehow started a grass fire, apparently from sparks flying when a tire went flat on I-205 between Mill Plain and Fourth Plain.

They went on to say that this driver was issued a ticket! Although they didn't state what the ticket was for.

Seems kind of unfair to me, most grass fires are caused by cigarette butts being tossed out the window, and I think those people should be fined, but they are seldom caught. But for getting a flat tire?

Anybody know more about this than I do?

Update: According to the Columbian, a Wheel came off the trailer. It didn't just go flat.

Awww, heck, the ticket could have been for not having the right mirrors on the tow rig. I listen to the news reports with a grain of salt. 90% of what they report has been crafted so that you'll place one hand on either side of your face, suck in your breath and form an "O" with your lips.

GSA, that is why I think these people who have these big RV's should have to get a commercial license to drive this stuff. People can go buy one of these things that are as big as a log truck and go on there way. Most don't ever pay attention and something like that occurs.

I would say that some of these people that have these huge boats should have a license to tow them as well, but it would never become a law.

My brother used to work at Marathon Motor homes. You know, the one with all the full size busses sitting alongside I-5 north of Eugene.

He could not believe that they would just hand the keys to these behemoths over to Grandpa, pat him on the back and send him on his way!

Reminds me of a story: When cruise controls first became readily available, some Grandpa bought a new fancy motorhome fully equipped. As he sailed down the highway, Grandma called from the back telling him, "coffee's ready", so he set the "auto pilot" and went on back to pour a cup!

A few years ago there was a guy driving a big Winnebago pulling a boat...headed west on Hwy126. The boat trailer had a bearing seize up around Noti, authorities later figured, but the guy didn't notice...couldn't see the boat in his mirrors. Pedal down, he kept going west, past Star Camp, thru Hale Valley, up and over Badger Mtn...and on to Walton (about 12 miles from Noti) where other drivers flagged him down. The bearing had seized and the wheel locked up...the tire melted down and when the guy finally stopped the steel wheel had been worn off on one side almost to the hub. There were about half a dozen roadside brush fires back along his path.

He didn't get a ticket...nor was he held liable for the cost of fire suppression.

GSA, same story happened in Idaho years ago. Many, many cars tried to stop the guy and his comment was "I'm used to people honking and waving at me, I didn't notice".....
