Default Blown Jeep Motor-Need Help

My 1992 Jeep Cherokee died. I've been told I need a new motor. Used is $3,000. Re-mfg. is around $4,000. Any of you ifishers have any suggestions? I am willing to help and can trade a lot of fishing trips. Or will pay for your work. Looking for any ideas that are less than what I have been quoted.

I'd start shopping, those quotes seem high to me. My brand new(not re-furb) 350 Vortec in the crate cost 2100 bucks and another 850 to install at the dealership.

Those sound like Jeep OEM numbers to me. Look into putting a popular V8 into it. I think a Chev 350 will match up or you can get an adapter for it. There are literally hundreds of jeep sites and after market manufacturers that make ANYTHING you could possibly think of that is Jeep related or give you lots of free advice.

Not sure if your quote is from here, but check out Jeepers in Lake Oswego. I get all my work done there. All parts and labor are warranteed for 18 months.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">He's got a Cherokee, not an old CJ. Not real conducive to transplants.

Rags, the $$ you're talking about is way, way high, and probably more than your rig is worth.
What engine is it? 4.0? Or is it a Grand Cherokee with a 360? And WHY do you think you need a new engine, besides being told that.
If it's a 4.0, there's tons of them lying around in wrecking yards, and they're not all that spendy to rebuild. Somebody's attempting to gouge you, IMHO.

Agree with 1pump. I had a 360 G.W. I've always been told the 4.0's were a darned hard motor to kill.
