Massive vibration, new boat
Hi guys,
I have a brand new 20' super vee with 150 jet. The thing is a rattle trap. The screws are actually vibrating out of the floor. Anyone else heard of similiar problem?

Check your impeller, I had that happen to me once when I got a twig stuck between the impeller and the sleeve on my jet!

Brand new...? Warranty?
Did it do this on the test drive, or did you hit/run over something?
Seems like part of the story is missing here.

Brand new. No test drive. I put rubber dampeners on the braces on the left side and it moved the rarrling to the right side. Impeller is clear.
So I should take it back?
No there is no part of the story missing here. The boat has done it from day one, I thought it was normal for an open boat. Buddy of mine said not normal. Eric from Stevens said they will sometimes do that and just need a dampener on the affected area. At this point I have lots of rubber glued to the braces and it looks like shoot.

Re: Massive vibration, new boat
is it a factory merc jet motor?? some of the factory pumped motors were getting crappy made jet 4 blade impellers from over sea's years back I suspect thats still the case, they somehow got around Glen...
anyway I have seen a few first hand that ran harmonics back up through the motor like you would not believe, It has to be hurting the motor in my opinion, sounds like you got one, install a new balanced impeller from Glen at Woolridge.
Peace, B.

Yes and yes. factory jet with 4 blade impeller. it's at the dealership right now. My sales guy eric pedersen is a pretty good guy. said he would drive it and find out what the problem is.
Thanks all for the input.

Re: Massive vibration, new boat
I'm a little unfamiliar with your motor. Outboard right? Whatever it is you definantly want it fixed. An unbalanced condition will put A LOT of wear and stress on not only the engine and bearings but also the boat itself.
