Default HELP...Special Tool Needed!

Hi All
I am in need of a Flywheel Holding tool for a small repair to my 92 Mariner. Does anyone have one they might loan or rent to me for a week or so? Also does anyone have a alternative to this special tool for holding the Flywheel while you remove the nut and then tightening again. Any advice or guidance is appreciated.
Thanks
HS

On some applications a large screw driver or pry bar and a bolt threaded in to pry against I am not sure if you have a bolt hole to use.

Thanks for the response. As luck would have it this model does not have and bolt holes in the top to use for leverage. I was thinking about a large strap wrench have you ever used one?

Take the spark plug out and put a length of small diameter rope into the hole . Rotate the flywheel around until you feel resistance . Do what you need done then pull the rope back out . Works great with no damage done

This method works really well. A word of caution though. Make sure the cylinder is on the compression stroke. Otherwise you could bend a valve.

Don't ask how I know this.

Then go ahead on her. There's no valves to worry about.

About 3/8" cotton or nylon braided rope is what I prefer . I don`t really like polyproplene . You can get at any hardware store . Your welcome , I`am glad I could be of help , Brian

One time I used about a bazillion feet of some nylon twine I had laying around for something like this. If you have a choice, use the biggest and softest stuff that will fit through the spark plug hole. If you have a choice don't use hemp or any other natural fiber. They have a tendancy of leaving tiny pieces behind that may (or may not) be good for the inside of a cylinder. Use nylon or something like that. Mule tape works really good, if you can get a hold of any. Just stuff as much of it in there as you can. But be sure to leave enough to pull it out when you R/R the flywheel.

Be careful, bring the piston about half way up before you start putting the rope in the spark plug hole other wise you may get some of the rope in 1 of the ports if it is a 2 stroke, it will cut off the rope in the port and then you have a bigger problem. Look on the side cylinder for a plate, that might give you an idea where the port is or look through the plug hole to see the port. I do not know much about a 92 Mariner but I have been mechanicing for over 40 yr and 2 cycle was my specialty in the small equipment business. I would also try to use nylon rope maybe 1/4" or smaller, stater rope in my pref.

Again thanks much for the advice Gents! This has saved me endless searching for this tool and not to mention the $150.00 some sites want for it. I am going to try this this weekend and hopefully I will be up and running by weeks end.
Thanks
