Default New ifish policy?

“Sorry, the time in which you may edit your message has elapsed.”

I went in to highlight a sentence and got this. Yesterday I went in to rewrite a miss-spelled word and got the same thing.

I liked it better when you could come back and correct mistakes.

I got this message within a minute or two of originally posting.

Also, when you go to email a couple ifisher’s you get some kind of “flood protection” msg. This is not new but have found it bothersome when you are in a hurry and need to email a couple ifisher’s.

Just my 2 cents.

I understand the reasoning behind it and some post wouldn't make any sense if you edit out something and the next post had addressed it.

No time limit vote for me! Maybe I am in a closet but I don't see all the drama until I see the mod's commentaries etc...

Heck, if we don't get to edit the posts then we are for sure to have a bunch of meaningless threads, with dangling paritciples and all!

Steve,
A lot of advertisers on the two sales threads use the feature to return and update what's sold or not when they have multiple items...something to think about. I would think an hour (8 seems long when readers react more quickly) would do it...

How about you leave enough time so I can make my post then go back to school and learn how to spell  Then I could come back and edit it

Hey what class are you in? Maybe I can join you!

Seriously, I usually use my word program anymore for that reason but not always. Sometimes I forget to use a graemlin or email notification and a few minutes ago I looked at the coyote spoon thread on the community forum and realized a post I did earlier I said I use a 44’ leader. Now that is a long leader!

I knew folks would realize my typo but I tried to edit it and the editing time has been lengthened. I’m glad for that.

Original post at 1:42pm and edit at 3:49pm.

Thanks!

Wow! I didn't know there was a thread about this!

I changed it back about an hour ago, due to e mails that I had gotten challenging it.

The moderators mostly still like the idea, but I got flooded with questions about it!

I changed it back for now, but we may do something like it in the future.

It's just that I have edited things days after, when I notice a spelling error.

The things that had happened when people have gotten upset have been few. I feel like it should be open editing.

Oh--and Skrimmy--
I don't think the salmon challenge got deleted, but if it did, it must have needed it!
I trust the mods with all my heart, and we don't delete threads lightly around here.

and about Hog Tales, you know Gary very well, so you should probably ask him!
HOG! That is your first post in four days! WOW!

You know, if everyone doesn't stop fighting, I may just cancel ifishstock.

Why don't you all mellow out a little?

On your death bed, are you going to say, "Gosh, I'm sure glad that Edit thing was changed on ifish!"

The edit time span was set for this reason:

It's an issue of fairness and respect ... Remember, we respect each other on Ifish. Starting a public conversation then yanking it is disrespectful to other author's time, as they respond to your ideas.

Thanks Jenny. I have sometimes wanted to edit something the next morning, when I realized that something I said that I thought was funny, really was simply mean.

Let's call it a test.

Problem:

Part 1: Someone starts a thread. The topic interests others who then respond. The topic starter also posts to the thread with questions or comments. The topic starter then decides, after several people are involved in the discussion, to delete the topic title and remove all of his posts. We are left with an active thread with no title that makes no sense because half the posts are gone.

Part 2: Someone decides to leave ifish and, on their way out, they elect to delete all their posts. Again, we have threads that don't make sense because a large portion of the discussion is gone.

I believe that you are currently able to edit a post for 10 minutes. Maybe that is not long enough. As I said, this is a test. We appreciate your input.

As always, we strongly encourage you to proofread your posts before you hit the button. I always seem to catch my typo errors right after they appear on the board, which is why so many of my posts say "edited by crabbait".

I would like to see more than 10 minutes for us proof reading challenged individuals. Although I do proof read my posts, I often don't see mistakes until some time has passed and I forgot what I meant to say and read it as written. How about 60 minutes?

Seriously, I think and hope I'm over that!

Here's an email I replied to Crabbait after he immediately emailed me with an explanation when I started this thread:

Day 12! Tomorrow will be day 13!

I understand where you guys are coming from. Didn't seem like 10 minutes but just a couple minutes. I'm a sloooooww typer though!

Would benefit me and probably others to have more time or unlimited time like we used too.
Think it might be beneficial for some to re-think there post and be able to edit it when they later realize it wasn't in best taste.

Of course I wouldn't mind going back in the archives someday when I had time and editing some of my post when my PC breathalyzer wasn't working. But guess those are there to stay.

Oh well, guess I can chalk it up as those bad old days.

Wished I could have got together with you in Vancouver for a cup of joe. Maybe next time.

Nice lookin' boat by the way Steve!

So Steve, you're saying that some of these posts actually make sense here on I-fish??? Ten minutes is a little crazy. I think 8 hours would be better. That way when you mis-quote Roy Rogers, Kenny Rogers, Will Rogers or Roger Will-co, you can fix it and not be embarrassed by it for all eternity.

This is especially true for enept spellers such as myself. See my point.

I think this is a large bag of doo doo.

If someone wants to edit their posts they should be able to do so whenever. I have made changes to posts days after they were made, to help clarify a point or to reword something.

If someone wants to edit their posts in such a way the thread no longer makes sense, that should be their choice. What, has no one ever wanted to retract a statement? If you as the moderators don't like it the way it then reads, remove it. You remove enough of them now anyway, what is the difference?

Go ahead, edit this one. It is my first post in quite some time. Which AUP clause does it violate? Surely there is one.

I would like to see no time limit on the ability to edit your post. The main reason is if I write something before I go to bed.... then the next morning, I regret wording it as such, or otherwise think the wiser of my post; I would like the ability to swifty correct it without having to bug the Moderators.

Sooner or later everyone will have something they wish they written better, more clearly, and/or more correctly; being able to self-moderate our posts will help the ship sail more smoothly.

Jen, I stand corrected! It wasn't deleted, just highly altered. And I was mostly "funnin" with ya, sorry if it was taken wrong. As you know.....sometimes I tend to be a bit of a smart***, but most of the time, it's meant in a fun, not mean way. I'll try to be a "good boy" in the future! (key word being "try")!
