Default trailer lights?

I bought a used Surburban, and it has a 6 prong outlet for trailer lights all ready installed in the bumper. It is my understanding that is for the elictric brake and lights. I just bought a used utilty trailer, and want to get the lights going. Fortunatly, the trailers plug has been cut. SO I went and bought a 6 prong female connector, and I am looking for advice and time saving hints on hooking this up next weekend. Also any good web sites?
Or free advice?

This is a simple task. There should be a diagram of the wiring sequence in the package of the new plug. If your rig is wired correctly, this will be the way to wire it. If it does not work, then I would have your rig's plug rewired. It is a pain to find out at the last minute that the friends trailer or whatever lights won't work right.

Is your trailer a four wire system? You may just need an adapter which will convert your 6 wire to a 4 wire. I bought my adapter at Knechts. It plugs right into the 6 plug on the rig and you simply plug your trailer into the adapter. Costs less than 10 bucks and works great. Dont mess with the truck plug wiring.
