If you are looking at casting style spinners you should give Rob Brown a call or e-mail www.randblures.com. He has the best selection for that type of spinner around

good luck,

Chris

As for tools. small needle nose or round nose pliers are the ticket when making casting spinners. There are step by step instructions on here, just do a search. Also, Todd has a sweet how to vid. maybe send him a pm

Default Good stores for spinner components

My two favorite locations are Fisherman's Shack, located on Hwy 99W and Airlie Road, a few miles south of Monmouth, Oregon. Fisherman's shack is run by Don Green, and he knows a LOT about building weighted casting spinners for steelhead, salmon, trout, and bass. Don offers first-rate components in small, medium, and large quantities, and has some of the finest weighted French blades available anywhere. Don has customers all over the USA,and is a great resource. Fisherman's Shack has an excellent mail-order catalog and a web site.

Another great location is BC Angling Post, located in Gladstone, Oregon. BC Angling post is run by Bill Williamson. His shop has a lot of custom painted spinner blades for chinook salmon,as well as excellent wobblers like the Clancy Wobbler. Their web site has photos of all the different painted blades they custom paint. They sell excellent bait in season.

I have dealt with both of these outlets for over 15 years, and both Don and Bill really know their stuff. They have virtually EVERYTHING you need to build any kind of spinner--wire,forming tools, clevises, bodies, blades, spoon blanks, hooks, etc. Both places have very competitive prices too.

Default you do not need a wire former to make spinners

The last time I checked, BC Angling Post had hollow cone-shaped body "bells", fairly similar in shape to the Blue Fox Vibrax style. I myself, and most other weighted spinner builders I know, are not really all that fond of the bell-shaped body. I do not think it really is as good as a number of other body materials, like solid brass bodies of various shapes, or even the genuine silver-plated bullet weights Fisherman's Shack sells; I've had good success simply dip-painting various bodies with Fishermun's Lure Coat, or spray painting lead or brass bodies and then top-coating them 2-3 times and finally oven-baking them to really cure and harden the paint coat.

I prefer to build by hand using round-jawed pliers, and I like to snap the wire off by hand, not cut it off with wire cutters. It takes a short lesson to learn how to break the wire off by hand, but it leaves a smooth, burr-free wrap. A guy does NOT need a wire former, or even round-jawed pliers. You can make good loops by using regular needle-nose pliers, and forming a diamond-shaped loop for the hook, and either a "D-loop" or another diamond-shaped loop for the line-tie end, or you can make an elongated loop and simply crimp it down and thus round the end, in the Jim Bedford style. Plain, but good-quality needle-nosed pliers are all you "really" need to get started.

I just got an order last week from Jann's Netcraft, They are fast and I like the prices there. I have used them for years now.

If possible try to get together with someone and combine orders, I did that.

They had some hammered copper blades on closeout that are going to be hot in a few weeks on the Columbia below Bonneville, they will be great with some blood red beads

The spinner shafts come pre-bent on the bottom end, just slide on the split ring and then slide the spinner body down right over the loop...

If you mean the loop on the head of the spinner, just cut the wire as tight to the shaft as possible after twisting it up.

Fish on...
