Default Springer ON!!!!!!!!!!!

What a fun day today was. Invited Gizmo Man, Woody and Woody's Dad Gary to spend the day on a combo trip with me for springs and sturgeon. We were fishing in the St Johns area in case you were wondering where the zipperlip location was.

First pass down river we made a pass down stream trolling for springers. Gary was sitting there talking along when I looked back at his rod and saw it throbbing and line pealing off the real! FISH ON!!!!! But as things go this only lasted about 10 seconds and it was fish gone. :depressed: Man did that wake me up big time. Of course it was the only taker we had and it did a pretty good job of chewing up that herring. Gary, I sure wish you could have konked that fish.

About 10:15 we decided we had given the springs enough of our attention so we switch gears and found a spot for sturgeon. Seems today that Giz and Woody had the hot rods for some reason. Course when you use the crush method you are pre-chewing the bait for the sturgeon. Just glad Giz kept his dentures in or..... well any ways, you get the picture.

We did'nt follow in Pop's footsteps but Giz did manage to boat a 46 1/2 inch keeper. Way to go Walt. Most of the day we boated a bunch of shakers and had a lot of conversation and fun. Or is that fun converastion? And Roy, we did'nt even talk about you once. However we did hear from Neutron and it seems his kid had a big pound down that did'nt stick either. Just one of those days that the fish did'nt hit the skillet.

Walt, Woody and Gary it was great to get together with you all again and especially you Gary. That springer on has got my blood flowing from it's winter solstice. WA Hoooooooo!!!!

Hey Bernie:
Glad to hear that you had a "bent rod" already. I have been waiting on Cottis to get his boat wet...no luck! :depressed: Hope to see you on the river sometime....remember I'm retired with no boat, so if you have an extra seat...I think that my bottom would fit it just fine.  Good luck this season on springers. Actually the rod was burried and line stripping off David. Perhaps we WAITED a bit to long. WAy it goes sometimes. Still it was extremly exciting to have a rod fold like this early in the season. Next time......

I would like to thank Bernie for the great day. We caught lots of sturgeon (mostly shakers) and I was lucky enough to get this nice keeper.

It was really nice to meet follow IFISHERS Woody and his dad Gary as well as to see Dipnet and her hubby putting the hurt to a fish in their new boat.

Dispite the rain showers, yesterday brough back memories of the eary days of Ifish where new friends spend an enjoyable day on the river having a great time on the water and years later a friendship is formed. Thanks again Bernie, Woody and Gary for the great time.

Too bad that fish Gary hooked did not stay on. We would have pics for all to enjoy....

Giz and a 46 1/2 fish...

Woody and his Dad...

and finally, Mrs. and Mr. Dipnet:

Giz...

Thanks again Bernie for another great day on the river. Thanks for inviting Dad along, too. It's been way too long since we just sat in a boat and hung out. It was great meeting you too Gizmo, and thanks for the ifish history lesson.

That pound down Pop got was pretty exciting. I think we shook him up a little when we were all yelling, FISH,FISH,FISH at him.

Dad was a little sceptical when I told him that we were fishing with some of my internet friends and he really didn't fully grasp the concept until I explained that it's kind of like a huge club or sports bar (without the booze) where everybody has silly nicknames. I told him to imagine hundreds of tables scattered about the place with a different topics of conversation going on at each one. Thousands of club members are welcome to comment on any particular conversation, or just sit down and listen. I'm sure I could have elaborated more about how the owner of the place, or one her helpers, occasionally has to 86 a troublemaker when a "barfights" breaks out. Or how there are little clubs within the larger group the hang out together, but he got it and I think he thought it was pretty cool.

Bernie put the broom stick rod away my friend , it is much more fun to catch sturgeon on salmon rods .

I thought that you fished Tackle Buster style

My comment just came from the fact that you said the herring came back full of teeth marks.

My thought was that if the herring came back it wasn't chewed on enough.

David I knew what ya meant brother. However when line is singing off the real you figure that there is a fish on the other end. Rod tip in the water is generally a pretty good sign that a fishy is on the hook. Guess we will just blame it on tackle failure aye?

I'll go with the tackle failure, although David taught me to "let 'em eat"...maybe drag too loose
maybe just a hair? Awesome that you got into one, especially this early.
