HA...They tried that some years ago, a tax on luxury boats (yachts). All the people that can afford six figure boats started crying SOOO loud that the powers that be said " Never Mind".
It sure wouldn't suprise me though if they came up with some sort of tax for the average boat owner. Screw the average guy and ask for chump change from the six figure folks yep yep.

All the aricle says is that there is bipartisan support and it is gaining ground(?). Looks like just to the general fund. This is the only place that I have seen mention of this(Freshwater News).....Roger

If the tax goes for improved ramps and parking, if it goes for increased security at those ramps, if it goes for increased law enforcement on the water, then I'm all ears.

We certainly want some of these things when we head for the water, and we realize there isn't any free lunch.

Put me down as one is is very interested in this idea and tentatively in favor of it.

If it goes to the general fund than no way in *$#* would I ever consider such a tax. If it were to be placed in a specific fund to be used ONLY for promotion of water safety, Improvements like Skein mentioned above, and the like than I'd have no real problem with it.

Put it in the general fund and that money will never be seen again by boaters. It's like writing the state a blank check.

Smj-
A boat tax for six figure boat doesn't make sense. How many 30 plus foot boats do you see using the ramp?
Just because someone makes money and wants to spend it on a boat doesn't mean they should be taxed for it.

Let's look at the big picture here boys and girls. The state is deprived of the money it's used to because of overspending on their part, not ours. Adding an additional tax doesn't solve the problem, it just puts another band aid on the wound that is going to do nothing but get bigger.

Another tax?

Need to beat this one down with a big stick.

Boat tax, raising our tags/license fees next year with NO gaurentee where the extra money is going. Another way to milk the outdoorsman for more money to support there bad spending habits.
