Default can I salvage my old spey running line?

Chopped the head off my old rio skagit 350gn line a few feet to better fit my new 5wt. Now I have a reel of the old running line. whats the best way to make a large look that a head can pass through and salvage the line? Is this even possible?

Thank you,

chris

go on the spey pages and search for threads on making loops. There are several threads on building loops.

I made loops in some Frog Hair running lines using a series of nail knots. The nail knots were tied with 50 lb tuff line. Use three or four nail knots spaced about a half inch apart. I then coated the knots with soft tex. These loops are really strong and I have caught fish weighing over 20 lbs and not had a problem.

Here is a photo (sorry, but my camera doesn't do real good closeup shots) of the loop I made in 58 lb Frog Hair Shooting Line:

The loop is 8 inches in diameter and is big enough to go over a spool of shooting head. It has four nail knots from 50lb tuff line and two coats of soft tex.

I used this running line yesterday on my twelve weight rod for Tuna. My largest tuna was probably over 30 lbs and as you can see, the loop didn't fail.

Just completed looping the running line. Seems nice and strong, used 40lb thin braid nail notted 3 times then used shrink tubing followed by a thin cover of aqua seal. It's definately not going to be a smooth as my nice airflo looped running line going through the guides, we'll see, it is a little bulky.

thanks again.
