Default Small Stream Trout

Has anyone had a chance to get out and hit any small trout streams lately? I used to fly fish the upper North Yamhill a lot, and some other small streams, but have not done so in quite some time. Not looking for any secret spots, just a general consensus as to whether anyone is taking any time to explore smaller waters.

small streams are my favorite places to fly fish. i hit gales creek fairly often but good fish seem to be few and far between. my favorite creek is Rock Creek in western Montana.

I haven't fished Gales Creek since it was open for steelies, sure a lot of fun hooking winter run on a 5 weight!

On the west side rivers and streams don't seem to be as prolific of bug factories as say the crooked, metolius, deschutes etc...something about the PH or so I'm told...anyhow they just don't seem to support the same resident trout population densities...

The higher you get in any watershed the less this seems to hold in my experience, as well as upstream of barriers to anadromous runs, ie dams w/o ladders or falls too high to jump...Say come to think of it I bet the massive burst of competition from the swarms of smolts moving through might explain that O_o

Got a nice little 3# for the small streams here in OR. and love it. If there's water, there's fish. Not many monsters, but still great fun and casting lessons.
