you wanna know what's really bad? i have, in the desk that i'm sitting at right now, a file folder with "belated birthday" cards in it. no, i couldn't buy regular cards and have them on hand. i've actually planned to be late about it.

one good piece of advice that i got from a friend of mine was to keep gifts for your significant others on hand. you never know when you'll need them.
