I painted a jeep a few years ago,
When I thought I was done with the body work, I realize now I was just getting started

the epoxy primer was a piece of cake and looked good when I was done. It was the metallic paint that was a little more difficult
I was told to mist it and let it set up a bit and then come back and put a heavier coat of paint it,
The misting went well, it tacked up, and I tried to lay a coat of paint on the jeep, when I got done I had runs about every inch all the way around the jeep :depressed:
After wiping it down and starting over, I ended up putting on about 40 coats of overspray because I didnt want to get any runs. paint is rough like overspray, and the couple spots I did right look good. If I had to do it over again it would look better with the learning curve figured out, but what I did turned out mediocre at best. Find a paint man and give him some cash is my suggestion unless you are talking a real beater.
The bondo is cheap to fix little dents and such, I bought a HVLP gun that cost about $100, I paid about $40 or $50 for the gallon of primer, and around $125 for the gallon of paint I got. Wasnt cheap when I was done, but I had a lot of fun.
